Applying for J1 from France

    Hi all,

Any advice would be appreciated! I'm currently on Erasmus on France until May 2013 but I'd love to go on a J1 next summer. Does anyone know how I would go about applying for the visa? Do I apply in France or Ireland? I'm only going to be in Ireland for 10 days at Christmas so I don't see how I can attend an interview in Ireland but I don't know if I can apply in France if I'm not an French citizen.

If anyone can help me through my confusion it would really help :o

I've done this before (with a different visa type).

If you have an apartment rental contract, or some sort of bill to prove residence, and a job contract (like a CDD, CDI) or are in college full-time in France, you can apply through the american embassy in Paris. They're fast, friendly and efficient.

Just remember to take the TGV home after your appointment because they'll keep your passport for 4 or 5 days after you visit the embassy.
