Converting a compact to a standard double?

I want to change my bike from a compact to a standard double.

Its a 2010 Giant Defy 2 with 9speed Tiagra compact with 50/34 front chain rings.

The front derailleur is held on by a bracket and two allen head bolts, it looks like it could be moved up about 1cm to accomodate the bigger rings.

What else would I need to change from a compact to standard?

Is it worth the hassle or should I just upgrade the bike?

Why do you need a double? Are you monstrously strong?

All you need to do is move the deraileur up slightly. It's a very minor adjustment.

I might be interested in the compact chainset if you are selling :)

You may find that the chain is insufficiently long enough now that you have the larger chainring; whether your RD is a long or short cage type can effect things......

I'm considering something similar - but would probably invest in a more relaxed cassette (SRAM 11-32 or the like) to give me roughly the same 'granny gear' ratio for the occasions it is needed. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts if you go ahead.......

@ Seaneh, the chainset is fairly worn I'm afraid, thats half the reason I want to change now.

@ Blaaman, I'll have to check out the rd cage, any idea roughly what kind of length a long and short cage would be?
I'll be replacing the chain aswell shortly.

If you are changing the chain anyway, you just need to ensure that you dont cut it to the same length as the chain you are taking off - you will need 2-3 links more with the double than with a compact crankset due to the greater diameter of the large chainring. Do all changes at the same time
