If CR was embodied in one band, represented and defined by one act, who would you choose? Me?

    Rainbow!

    Rainbow!

Blackmore's dismissive and 'off colour' reference to music of a syncopated nature as 'shoeshine music', marks him down a peg or two for me.
From where did he think the blues came?
Having got that out of the way I feel alright now.

    I'll nominate: Free

That's two you've had. Pick one and be done with it!

    Led Zeppelin.

They lived the life, sold their souls, paid their dues and three of them are still alive. Greatest band ever.

    Spinal Tap?

Drugs, girls, long hair, mysterious tragedies all have to play their part.

I have three I cannot decide between, The Doors, Led Zep and Floyd.

As two have been mentioned, I'll go with Pink Floyd.

    Looking slightly stoned:

Id be more inclined to say Bad Company myself, Paul Rodgers next group.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

Free v Bad Company, toss of a coin.

Ted Nugent - still mad as fsck, there are enough personalities in his head to make up several bands!

    Steve Miller Band.

Going 45 years, probably have had more than 45 band members, you can't get classier classic rock than that.:pac:

The greatest classic rock band of all time was the stones from 68 to 74 with Mick Taylor on lead guitar (although he didn't play on beggars banquet):

    1968 Beggars Banquet
    1969 Let It Bleed
    1971 Sticky Fingers
    1972 Exile on Main St.
    1973 Goats Head Soup
    1974 It's Only Rock 'n Roll

Led Zeppelin, without a doubt. And to think that some people still call them a heavy metal band. For shame!
