Reillo oil burner problem

I ran out if oil last spring and its only gotten cold enough to turn the oil on so I got a few drums of kerosene to get it going last week.

The rads haven't been heating up and decided to bleed them yesterday evening. Only one rad in the entire house had some air in it.

My biggest problem now is that the boiler doesn't work at all now. It worked for a few minutes or less yesterday after bleeding but will not run since. The lock out light doesn't even come on now.

I don't know what to do. Anyone any ideas as what to do?

your boiler has more than likely tripped out on high limit stat if you have no heat
in rads it means no circulation away from boiler hence water in boiler overheats and trips out most likely the cilculating pump is the cause

Ya I rang the guy who is going to service it for me and he told me to take off a little cover and press a button and hey presto is fired up.

Now it only worked for a minute then cut off again. I have bleed it again but it has made no difference. I had it in number 3 and it cut out so turned it up all the way and it worked for about a minute now it's doing nothing again. It seems to have tripped out again and when I press the trip button it trips a couple of seconds later again.

I can hear what I think is water boiling even tho its not on.

Is there anything I can do?

no not really as you are now dealing with very hot water in the boiler i will not
advise you on how to check the pump as there is a danger of quite severe burns
it would be best to wait for your service engineer to call but you more or less have confirmed the pump is either stuck / or burned out it may also be just a bad airlock in your heating system

Ya I rang him again there and he said to check the pressur gauge in the hot press and it seems to be low enough. He told me to turn a knob towards me and its fully opened and then he said to turn a screw on the side of the gauge and it should increase the pressure and I should hear water going through the pipe but can't hear anything and the pressure doesn't seem to be increasing either :-(

if all your rads had water in them when bled i would check pump first its quite possible also your ststem has lost water/pressure if pump has not ran for a number of months they can act up

It sounds like the pump is stuck, give it a whack with a hammer, or open the large screw in the centre of the pump, insert a large screwdriver, engage it in the slot, turning L/R might free it out.

They all had water in them. Only one had a bit of air in it. I did notice there was feck all pressure in the water when bleeding them. Ya perhaps it has lost pressure. I havnt had the heating on sinc February or march from what I can remember.

if you do decide to open pump be very careful for reasons stated earlier
you have ran boiler at max temp so water could still be very hot danger of burns

I'll leave it for the oil burner engineer to open up. I'd have no idea what I'm looking at. I'm a cabinet maker and know very little about plumbing :-(

Make sure he uses a Flue Gas Anyliser.

Well the heating is now working again. The heating engineer serviced the boiler and replaced the pressure valve in the hot press as it was knackered and not allowing any pressure to build up in the system. €120 all in all. Not a bad price if you ask me considering he was here two and a half hours.
