    Hi,

I want to buy a surround sound system for my XBMC media centre + my Sky HD box. must be able to handle DTS with speakers mounted on the walls

    i have been looking at a Yamaha RXV473 + Wharfedale DX1 HCP 5.1

To be honest i don't think i can afford the DX1's. but i'm not sure if i should just get a better AV and cheaper speakers. what do you lads think.

my budget is 600 euro there abouts

That is a fantastic price thanks for the link, and much cheaper than amazon.co.uk .Knowing my Missus there is no way i will get spend this kind of money on my sound system again :) Will i notice the difference if i get a Tannoy HTS101 from Richer Sounds for 440 euro? Is it worth the money for just watching movies, i wont be listening to much music on this zone.

    All advise is welcome :D

I very much doubt if you will notice the difference, certainly not €220 worth of difference :D. The onkyo speakers are very good quality for the price, I have the older speakers (HT518) had them for 4 years now and they are fantastic. You wont be disappointed. the only thing I would advise is to replace the standard speaker cable with something more substantial, which will make a difference, you dont need to spend hundreds on QED cable, something like this http://www.tsnversand.de/lautsprecher-boxen-speaker/zubehoer-cable-accessories/oehlbach-lautsprecher-kabel-transparent-auf-rolle2.htm (I have this cable, Oehlbach is excellent quality for the price) will do. Order the 20m roll and you will have more than enough for all 5 speakers, unless you have a HUGE room lol.

Let us know when you get the system set up :)

Oh just one more thing, you will need to get 2 eu 2 pin to UK 3 pin plug adapters, one for the amp and one for the sub woofer. Be a bitch if you get all excited when they arrive and you cant plug them in! Don't cut the eu plugs off and put UK plugs on, it will invalidate the warranty (found that out the hard way lol).

    Onkyo TX-NR 515 + Onkyo SKS HT 528
Finally got the Speakers on the wall and this system setup. What a system. Great sound for these small speakers. Watched Prometheus with DTS surround sound... amazing. Thanks for your advice Willy :)

Ended up getting 30 meters of that cable. used every inch of it feeding the cables through the walls.
