I am about to purchase a car from a dealership in Louth, I carried out a 3 star cartell check and the fuel type and number of doors listed on the cartell report differ to what the car is (car is diesel vs listed petrol , 3dr vs listed 5dr).

I have inspected and driven the car twice and have no issues with same. Should I let it slide or check it checked further for the listed fuel issue ?

    Any helpful comments welcome.

Did you try mywheels.ie and motorcheck.ie too?

They are not 100% accurate I have found...

Thanks, ran a check on that and the same result.....so either the database is messed up or something is up. The remainder of both reports are fine though. Fingers crossed.

I suppose ask to see the registration doc and check the VIN against it.

Be very careful. Might be a paperwork mistake, or it might be a cloned car.

Ask the buyer to show you the VLC/tax book. Check the chassis (VIN) number on the document vs where it is stamped on the car (not just the sticky label on the door jamb or the tag under the windscreen glass). Check the engine number if you can find it.

If it's a reputable garage you could explain your concerns to them and see if they have an explanation. If they are not reputable / have something to hide they will hunt you out of the yard as soon as you start doing detailed checks.

What do Cartell have to say about the discrepancy?

I have found them to be a little inaccurate as well. Cartell told me a car was an automatic but in fact was a manual.
