Fair play to him! Good cause I hope all goes well and this effort doesn't fall foul of planning or local authority restrictions.

Donnacha did the 2100km race around Ireland earlier this month, some man. Saw him climbing the gap of dunloe during the rai (the steepest section 20%) and it was no bother to him

My brother knows him. During a conversation some time back, about the huge distances that he was doing (casually) on the bike as well as the distances he was running at the time, he said to my brother something along the lines of "the bike is grand, sure I'm sitting down most of the time". Some man indeed!

Woh! Well Done to Donnacha for taking this challenge on! Wish him the very best in his training especially and of course on the day itself :)

Some man for one man! 100 times, I'm in awe! Anyone know if he's got an online donation facility?

Fair play to Donnacha. Was up there today and caught his last 17
or so laps. Looked pretty fresh he could have kept going for more. Also a guy by the name of Kevin did 50 or 51. Nice buzz there. His family very proud of him. Legend!

I heard him on the radio when he was finished. He said ahh it was grand fecking hell ha!

Fantastic achievement! One of the lads worked out that his total metres climbed would be about 3,600m but, as he pointed out, done in the hardest possible way. Certainly much harder than doing 3 x 1,200m HC climbs.

I suppose 100 times up Temple Hill will be next!

Went along yesterday for a few laps.
It's a fair achievement and they raised a few grand, the kick at the last 1/3 is quite technical so its much more than just the sum of the parts. I can see this being an event going into the future.

what was his average gradient for the climb?
how long was the route he was doing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,349 ✭✭✭hans aus dtschl

I assume the route is from leitrim street up to st patrick's place, up to the old youghal road and down richmond hill if you wanted to map it yourself. It's pretty steep though. Strava reckons an average of 11.5% but again it depends how you map it: http://app.strava.com/segments/949682

Unless they had a diversion for him to do the route against the normal flow of traffic at the bottom of patrick's hill?

Anyway the main thing is the top bit is the nasty bit!

You'd be surprised! It's calling out for a southsider to go one better!

Any idea as to how his time to climb the hill varied over the course of the 100 ?

Was he steady and consistent all day .. or die a number of slow deaths towards the end, taking X% more time than earlier.

    A great achievement!

I saw him in the mid 70's and he was still going up at a fair pelt . He looked to me as if he could beat his own record or defend it without too much planning.

I had the same impression. He looked very comfortable and focused. He showed no hint of emotion until the last lap or two. He could defnitely have kept going but he achieved his target so I guess there was no point risking health or injury. Does anybody know what he was eating and drinking for the 6 or so hours?

I genuinely don't think my car would do that without some sort of mechanical failure!

Some achievement. Kinda puts my Healy Pass triumph into perspective! :o

A feat like that deserves to raise more than €2,000. An absolutely inspiration reading and watching that!

What a guy - the mere thought of it makes me ache. On the rare occasions I walk that route home I'm fit to collapse!

Anyone know if they're still taking donations.

They should set up a mycharity.ie page or something
