hi,im looking for a saorview combo reciever,i installed a ferguson ariva a few months ago for the brother and although he is happy enough with it,it has been freezing now and again, hes not bothered as its just a reboot and its ok again but the sis in law wants a combo reciever now and as she's the demanding type i had better make sure she gets a good one,is the ariva still the reciever of choice or are there better options out there,do any offer the full epg instead of now and next for the uk channels, she wants the best price but any reciever will be considered, she might stretch for the full epg if its available, thanks in advance, regards

I have four Arivas two !20 and two 250 models. I have had the 120 models for a year without problems. The 250 models I have them three months no problems with them. If your brothers one still under guarantee ??.

its under guarantee id say as it was bought in april this year,as i said he's not bothered,i offered to update the firmware but he's happy enough with it,his problems only happen when he is recording to an external hard drive so it might be the hard drive not being suitable,is the 250 better than the 120,theres not much difference in the prices between them,do you find either of them better than the other.thanks for the quick reply

Not a lot of difference for me as I just switch them on and watch. The 120 models have gone into my sons bedrooms and I am using the 250 models myself. The 120 models are no longer available as far as I know. They have Utube and other bits and pieces. I have used a 32g usb stick to record and had no problems. I remember connecting a hard drive to one off the 120's and it would not work. It gave a message drive speed too slow. I did'nt bother with another hard drive as I have two Dreamboxes with hard drives. I can totally recommend Tony Moore at satellite.ie/ he gives an excellent delivery service and backup if required.

hi,I picked one of the 150 models up yesterday in midleton, they were on sale for 99.99 so i grabbed one, when i opened it about an hour ago to make sure it was working i found it has a few scratches on it and was a bit grubby from someone handleing, when i scanned in the irish channels i found that they had already been scanned in as there are double of everything now, that never happened when i scanned in the ariva 120 a few months back so im wondering if the box was returned to the shop for some reason,i will leave it up to the brother whether he wants to exchange it or not as it seem to be working fine, regards

Give her a list of boxes and let her make her own decision.

Why should you be worried about how a grown adult will react if everything isn't perfect?

the double channels are possibly due to you receiving from two transmitters. I was in my brothers house yesterday and he had double channels on the aerial. I deleted all channels and rescanned and they came in again on the double. A point I would like to make is all of my boxes were covered with protective film and it is difficult to pull off. If yours was not covered in the film it was not new.

hi vulmac,I scanned in the box in my own house before i set off to set it up for the brother and it was very buggy from the start,i scanned in the fta on 28e and they seemed to work fine but after arranging the channels,ie bbc1,bbc2,bbb3,bbc4,itv1,itv2 ect ect in a suitable order some of the channels failed to work and when i checked the tps i was getting nothing on the ariva despite my satellite meter getting a good signal/lock on them.i returned the box and setup the new one this evening, everything went fine except that on the tp for sky news i got no signal, theyre not bothered as they have no interest in the news but its a bit of a puzzle

Glad to here you are getting there. I checked my Sky News the frequency is 12207/27500 V. Just check that you are not looking at Sky News HD which is scrambled.
I scanned my boxes with FTA ticked only as it saves having to skip by all the scrambled channels.

hi,i scanned the fta and tried to manually scan sky news fta on its own,or at least i thought i did, they're happy enough with it,i personally would have to have sky news but they actually have no interest in any news channels so they're not bothered,in a few months i will probally have to scan in a few lost channels for them and i will check out the sky news again, the 150 is a nice reciever and they are delighted with the picture quality so its ok for now, cheers
