Changed engine, without notifying the relevant authorities.

    Or the opposite.

Or the other way around, notified the authorities of an engine change (from 2.5 down to 2.0) without actually carrying it out ;)

So would it be a bad idea to buy a car with this done.? I'm lookin at a 3 litre that's down as a 2 litre. Would it be problem at nct time .?

It would need to be fixed, and it's easy enough to do IIRC (have only done it once, long time ago...).

Well if they compare your emissions against the 2.0l specs and your 3.0l is above that you'd get a fail.

You could have a bigger problem with insurance if you don't declare the true engine size.

You can notify the Motor Tax office of the engine change by using form RF 111 and they'll send you out an updated registration certificate.

Neither would I and they also will have problems claiming from their insurance should they ever need to.

I just saw the tax book and it says the car is a 530i but has 2000 as the engine size . He said he insures it as a 3 litre just tax is cheaper. The nct wouldn't be a problem because it is a 530 on the book.

Nobody's gonna tell you to buy it. You know it's wrong anyway.

I know its wrong . Just never came across it before.. as far as I no in the 520 the engine size is a 2.2 . So I puzzled as how it could be a 2 litre . Confusing .! Might be best left alone : )

i had a 530d that was on the tax book as 2 litre and never had a problem with nct or when i tax it . and the tax was only 660 and not 1390 and had no problem with insurance because it was insurance as 3 litre
