Hard disk activitiy indicator. It would be permanently red if:
    • Not wired correctly
    • Hard Disk usage (e.g virtual memory) is high
    • The OS/software is intensively using the hard disk.
The light should flash when the hard disk is in use,

Thanks yoyo, I had thought it could be this but lots of searching didn't show this image. PC wont boot (seperate thread) and I've just noticed now that this is on.

OK, then its probably a diagnostics error. Can you tell us what brand/model the machine is?

Hmm, Can't find anything online that would help. Here something to try. Unplug the computer, open it up and reseat the memory (RAM), video here:

See if that helps. Could be a range of issues, motherboard failure, gpu failure etc, does any display come on at all when the machine is powered on? I.e: does the "Packard Bell" logo flash. If so your hard disk may have failed

Its not giving me any logo or boot. I'm just getting the fans whiring and lights coming on. So far I've reseated everything, tried different monitors and connections, replaced the motherboard battery reset the cmos, tried a different gpu, different motherboard. Tried plugging it in with just one stick of ram and replaced the psu. I've a new cpu on the way from hong kong so I'm hoping thats it, it was just yesterday I noticed the hdd indicator staying on and thought maybe there was something wrong with that. Cheers Nick, I'll be posting in this thread when I finally get it running again. In the meantime if theres anything else that can be tried I'm open to suggestions.

When you wired up the new mobo you mightn't have wired in the HDD Led umper either the correct way around or into the correct pins. I would check all your jumpers polarity (+ plus is colored wire - minus is white/black usually). Funny enough incorrectly set jumpers could cause these symthoms that you describe. Try only plugging in the pwr sw one and see if it boots. CPUs can fail but it is quite rare for them to do so, as you've tried everything else I would re-look over all the jumpers

I dont have the usual HDD led jumper that can be plugged in seperately, all the cables are joined at the top to the same type of black connector that the usb's use. And the pins fit perfect onto the micro atx board (I couldn't put it on backward if I tried). I could reconnect my old motherboard and see if the light remains constant but I reckon my cpu will arrive tomorrow anyway.

Try the new motherboard out of the case, also rather than using the case jumper to start the machine, short the two power sw jumper points with a screwdriver,
