Winter coat recommendations

Money is tight this year and I hoped to get a new winter coat at a reasonable price. I got a parka in Penneys 2 winters ago and its started to look a bit ragged.

I already tried Penneys - dreadful selection this year imo - all the ladies winter coats are very light - wouldnt hold up to the kind of snow we had a couple of years ago, not many of them are long either. They do have some wool coats but Im looking for something more parka style - but heavy, with a bit of warmth.

Ive tried Dunnes and M&S, House of Fraser, Oasis, River Island etc.... Just not finding anything at a decent price that I actually like.

Im kind of looking for along these lines:

Youd think itd be easy and theyre everywhere - but theyre really not!

I actually think it's a bit early yet for all autumn/winter stock to be in, esp the coats. Give it a few more weeks and there might be more in :-)

I saw black puffa style parkas in Next at the weekend, not sure how much they were

I got a coat similar to that in Zara last year, saw similar ones there last week. Think it was about a hundred euro. Love it, very warm and cosy.

They told me in Penneys that all their winter stock is in - in terms of styles, they will be getting more stock, but no new styles. Loads of people were giving out about the lack of proper long warm winter coats.

But hopefully it is too early for other shops.

Thanks for the tips on other places everyone!!

TK Maxx have lots of winter coats. And Zara have a good few too, as zzxx said. :)

What I'm finding hard to find this year is a nice rain-coat. A decent one, not just one of those 'comes in a bag' deals.

I have seen a several 'rain proof' jackets and rain coats which do not have hoods. Can anyone tell me what the hell is the point of a rain jacket with no hood!!? :pac:

    That's not a rain jacket, it's a wind breaker:pac: (I'd say anyway...!)

    +1 for TK Maxx

They have a lovely selection of Winter coats in all different styles.. I got a fabulous red coat in there last year, really unusual cut to it and I love it.. It'll be my Winter coat again this year.. cost me around €40 iirc.. Total bargain :D

Continental brands are usually better for that kind of stuff because the winters there are much colder. There are couple of links to the brands sold in Ireland. You could also check Sisley or Benetton. It is a bit early to be looking for those coats though.

Its so hard to get a nice raincoat. Usually Ive ended up paying a good bit for a north face or similar. There is also the problem of showerproof versus waterproof. I have a cycling jacket that is waterproof, but breathable - but its florescent yellow and not the sexiest lol!! But most raincoats are only shower proof - Ive jogged in them and been soaked afterwards.

However, I see a Paco has opened in Nutgrove Shopping Centre and they have some proper raincoats (I didnt check prices though).

I think Ill have to try TK Maxx - I dont think there is one near me (dublin 24) - does anyone know?

Good suggestions - I'm on the lookout for a decent winter coat for 16yr old daughter - so hard to find something she'd actually wear - teenagers? who'd have them? But liking these links - around 60 - 70€ is what I'm aiming to spend.
Might take a trip over to the Blanchardstown Center this week - I think there's a TK Maxx somewhere near there if not in the center itself and of course Pennys and I think Debenhams?? not sure about that one - but if anyone comes up with other suggestions I'd be grateful for links also :) - also winter footwear!
    (me no fashion clue)

Thank you everyone for all the tips, I think maybe I was a bit quick off the mark looking for a winter coat this year, but its been cold!!

Today I found, by accident, the perfect casual winter coat (for me!).

I got it in Diesel in the Square, its long (above knee), puffa style but not plasticy - more heavy duty material, silvery grey, belted, furry hood, and it was 90 euro. Ive looked for a pic online to attach but cant find one. It comes in a lovely grey/blue as well.

For the poster looking for a raincoat, I saw raincoats in Maine in Debenhams.

Dunnes have gotten more winter styles in too but they are quite plain. Grand though.

Bershka do some really nice duffel/parka style coats in a better range of colours, they had red and blue seriously warm coats last year with the big furry hood. Miss Selfridge, Topshop, H&M, A-Wear worth a look.

Monsoon do amazing versions of these with goose down, at the pricey end of the high street but you would get years and years out of it and it would be super warm so worth spending a bit more on. Some of the girls in work have been wearing theirs for years now and still swear by them.

I still couldnt have afforded it! The green one in the link is £129 plus £3.95 postage, euro conversion works out at 167 euro.

I dont know if were looking at the same parkas, because mine is very warm and it is very stylish all for just 40 which is a lot cheaper than getting a monsoon parka for over the odds,i even spotted a few parkas that werent in bad condition in a few charity shops, but they were all size 12's in..

Its a matter of personal preference, there is nothing wrong with the Dunnes ones, but imo the Monsoon ones were a lot nicer - not that I could afford them.
