Leinster Rugby season ticketing rant

So it seems that due to missing an email, due to the birth of my son, that myself and my wife aren't sitting together for any of the Aviva games even though we bought our season tickets together as we always do:mad:. Apparently if you bought 2 or more season tickets together you had specifically state that you wanted your sit together. However rather then do this when you sign up they send a random email off a few months later that you can easily miss, as in my case (thank god our kid isn't old enough to come yet as they wouldn't of cared about splitting him up from us either)

It really does beggar belief now badly Leinster run their ticketing. Every year they some how manage to cock things up due to their inability to actually communicate what is happening with people.

I really do wonder why I bother with a season ticket any more as due to the big games moving to the Aviva there maybe only one game a year where you can't get a ticket so I might just not renew it in future at this point.

So back to the topic at hand. What incompetent things have your team/club/Province done to piss you off. Hopefully if anyone reps view this they can at least try and rectify any issue people have going forward.

Obviously no mentioning names, personal attacks or trolling as it will lead to infractions and bans

Can't you just request to be reseated by LR? This has happened before and they've always obliged as far as I'm aware.

Also, this proves nothing good can come from having children.

Tickets are already sent out. Both Clermont and munster ones so can't change either. They only gave you a few days between the email and the deadline for applying for seats together. I was away at the time, and in fairness didn't read the email properly, but assumed I'd have more time to sort it out. Sitting on my lonesome now. Leinster have done a lot of things very well but ticketing is not one of them.

    pretty much:D

Nah have been in contact with them and they won't do anything to help bar send a mail stating the mail they sent suggesting you split your tickets had it's terms and conditions a note saying well actually you don't have to split them and if you do you have to specifically request to sit beside each other.

Seriously why suggest you fan base do something if it's actually going to screw them over how idiotic is that

That's rather poxy. I don't mind not sitting with people but if it was the missus, she'd hate to sit on her own so can understand the frustration.

I can see this turning into a ticket trading thread were people try and swap tickets to be closer to the people they are meant to be sitting beside.*

yep I missed an email, that was sent out giving you less then a week's notice even though you bought the tickets over 3 months prior to this. You'd really imagine this is something they could add when you sign up for the ticket

Hold on, I must be missing something here.
My wife and I sit together in the RDS. We did absolutely nothing with our tickets ... no emails etc, nothing ... and are seated beside each other for the Munster game and, presumably, Clermont.
Maybe it's because we're in the Grandstand?
Where is your season ticket for? The North or South stands?
Still - it's hardly Leinster's fault you didn't reply to the email and Sinead always does her best to sort people out. She's helped me and friends of mine on a number of occasions.

Munster not having the balls to hold their full alottment of tickets for Munster v Wasps H/C S/final in Lansdowne Road and selling them via Leinster rugby. As as result I couldn't get tickets together, as you can see it still hurts :(

It was even confusing when renewing my season ticket this year. Saw the pricing jump up to over 700, for what should be 2 terrace tickets. Didn't click on the continue/complete purchase. Followed up with the ticket office, seemed by default they had added premium seating to the Aviva tickets.

I found that fairly off putting and almost didn't bother renewing myself.

I've been a season ticket holder for 5 or 6 years now, I have found them much better in the last year or two.

That said, mistakes still can get made, but they're pretty good about trying to fix things even when it's not their fault.

I dont think it's fair you blame the LB on this one. The email was clear enough and a week is ample time to ask questions you may have to the ticketing office and register your intent on ticketmaster.

This wasnt the case last year as you may recall. You emailed off the list of names and ST numbers to the LB and they forwarded the grouping on. I'd say this change is the fault of ticketmaster and not the LB, who in my experience do a great job. Never been let down for tickets, when I've been entitled to them.

It wasn't a week. I got the e-mail on the Thurs and it had to be done by Monday afternoon. They could have given a bit longer. Its absolutely ridiculous that tickets bought together aren't seated together though and that is definitely the fault of LR. I'm back in bloody row Y of the South Lower while my brother is in row A of the Upper!!

How many scarves does one longtime Leinster supporter need?
(Hint: woolly hat, peaked cap, tee shirt, polo shirt, price reduction, etc.)

I'd rather like a Leinster hat in those season ticket packs. A nice wooly one.

Better than the feckin poncho they gave us this year.

I'm not a season ticket holder (someday...) but why aren't all tickets bought together seated together for the season by default? If I didn't want to sit with somebody I wouldn't be buying them a season ticket.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 179 ✭✭Gary The Gamer

I've been hit with this two years in a row. It's a really annoying way of delving out the tickets and they only give you a tiny window at the very start of the season. They could put the info up on the website as I don't get the email updates due to the ticket being a gift.

They are. Just not for the Lansdowne games for some inexplicable reason.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 813 ✭✭✭dave13

All tickets on the same account are allocated together, do you have separate accounts(i.e are the two tickets in different names) as that doesnt make any sense for two tickets?
To be fair you even got the email and didn't read it properly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,029 ✭✭✭John_C

I've always found the ticket office in Leinster very helpful but the OP does have a fair point. They should put the tickets beside each other automatically.
Also, the branch sends out one or two emails every week with team news etc so it's very easy to miss an important message.

I think it would add an extra level of complication to things their organisation if they had to separate all the season tickets into those who normally sit beside each other while then also trying to put people beside those they’ve requested to sit beside.

Think the moral is to read the Leinster emails. The fact that you had to group your tickets has been in place since they returned to Landsdowne and was also highlighted in a couple of earlier mails so it wasn’t as if it was jumped on anyone without any warning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,889 ✭✭✭Third_Echelon

Yeah, It's your own fault OP. I can't see how it is LR's fault.

It has been the same every year. Initially you emailed them a list of ticket numbers that wanted to sit together. Last year they brought in the facility to create groups via the ticketmaster account and everyone could join it that wanted to sit together.

You could try and sell your two individual tickets and buy 2 tickets beside each other directly from ticketmaster?

A bit of a pain alright, but not LR's fault really....

No, he's not at fault. He did nothing wrong and his complaint is valid. One would presume that tickets bought together would be seated together. If they're not to be then the time to ask if they should be would be when they're purchased.

Waiting 3 months before sending an email asking that question and which needs to be responded to in 5 days is LR's fault. It presupposes that we all have access to email on a regular basis. The OP has given an example where that wasn't possible and if it was sent a week later I know I would have been unable to respond for two weeks. For something like this I don't know why there would be such a short response time allowed.

It's been done the same way before, most people know the way the aviva system works and just take the 2 mins to sort it when they get the email.

None of the other ideas above work for the various categories of tickets.

one would presume? never presume anything...

It has always been the way for unreserved seats in the RDS, that when a game is moved to Lansdowne Road that you had to specify to sit with another unreserved ticket holder... Plus it sounds like the OP was well aware of this? I don't see the issue to be honest...

Yes its always been that way so yes you can understand things from LRs point of view but at the same time a five day notice period is pretty poor. Would it kill them to give a fortnight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 113 ✭✭PJ Maybe

The issue is a 3 month wait then a 5 day timeframe to respond. It's a very tight deadline when people don't always have access to email. For anyone caught by this it's going to affect their matchday experience. Even two weeks notice like CIARAN_BOYLE suggested would be more reasonable.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 179 ✭✭Gary The Gamer

Why don't they give you a code to use on ticketmaster to pick your own seats with no deadline attached. I'm on my own now in the worst seats in the stadium. I could sell those tickets probably for a tenner and buy other tickets. I'll probably just stay at home.

Do we know whether that time frame issue was down to LR or Ticketmaster though? It's not like we've had wonderful experiences with Ticketmaster before. The Hour of Power (or whatever it was called) was a complete cluster fk on TMs part which LR ended up having to honour plus sell more tickets at the reduced price during the actual hour.

Either way, knowing LR had they received a mail within a week or so of the deadline having passed they would probably have actioned it, especially given the circumstances. Lesson learned I suppose. If in doubt mail LR immediately.

How can you email someone immediately if you haven't checked your emails?
Its stupid to assume email on Thursday would get a response by Monday.
People say its 5 days but its just over 2 business days!! (depending on the time sent on Thursday)
Seems they can do it and risk upsetting people because the demand is there??

I used to be a member of Associate supporters club with Munster.
I left after i was meant to be upgraded to full but got an email informing me that because I was only a season ticket holder for Cork I wouldnt be getting it or access to Munster HC tickets...

By immediately I meant as soon as you realise there may be an issue. If the deadline has passed, as it had in this case, rather than assume the tickets would be together the OP should e-mail them to confirm asap. There was a month between the e-mail and the tickets getting out to people. Even if he couldn't e-mail in the 5 days (and it was 5 days, the number of working days is pretty irrelevant as we don't use the internet during working hours only!) he could chance his arm after 7, 10, 14 etc.

And again do any of us know for a fact the deadline was LR driven. It could just as easily have been, and in fact most likely was, a Ticketmaster thing.
