I'm looking for the best experience possible for the upcoming Hobbit movie. I've been to many of the cinema's around Dublin but I'm looking for something a little different and more along the lines of the old school 'night our to the movies' rather then the new age '€4 cheap and cheerful flick'. Any ideas for a cinema with a bit more of an experience for what promises to be a momentous occasion?

And I take it you don't want to experience it in full IMAX majesty at Cineworld's brand new Screen 17?

Sarxos. Cineworld is definitely one option but 'it's been done' as they say. I just wondered if there was somewhere a little different for a big movie like this. Maybe there's not and in that case the IMAX could be a great shout.

I haven't been, but heard that the isense in the Point Village is pretty excellent.

whoopsadaisydoodles: Heard that too. I may have to simply sample a list of venues prior to the main event.

The iSense is terribly underwhelming. Screen Cinema, screen one is the best for everything.

Screen Cinema, screen one is the best for everything.

Screen 1 of Screen is the true old-school cinema going experience. In the city there's nothing like it.

The ISense is great at the Point. Very immersive with stellar sound. Technically it's not quite IMAX standard but it is damn close.

For me it'll be either The Savoy or digital IMAX (LIEMAX) in Cineworld if i can.

I love the Savoy as it's the only cinema that still has that old grand theatre feeling. And screen 1 is lovely.

But the digital IMAX will probably the best experience as it'll be the closest to how it is meant to be seen.

Screen Cinema, screen one is the best for everything.

Except for the fact that you can hear everything that goes on in Screen Two.

The Lighthouse is a great cinema and I'm sure they will probably have some kind of event for the first screening of the hobbit too.

    From what I understand there will be something like 6 versions of this film - 2d, 3d, 48fps 2d, 48fps 3D and imax 3d.

Will the 48fps 3d showings be widely available?
