    Hi all,
hope I'm putting this thread in the right forum.
Well I hope someone can shed some light on this
    to me
Its my friends birthday in 2 weeks and she lives in Sydney Australia.
I wanted to send her a hamper parcel with a little taste of home in it
Barry's tea chocolate jelly sweets and some biscuits.
Will this be a problem do you think getting in to Oz
and would packing it in a box be okay with tissue paper haha.
Should this be alright and do I have to fill out a form or anything or what.
Just not sure or will that be all sorted in the Post office I haven't a clue haha
Thanks hope someone can help me out

Maybe this might be of assistance. http://www.daff.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0011/1147682/cant-mail.pdf

If u google with search terms " hampers from Ireland to Australia " u get some choices . This link sounds reasonable http://www.justlikehome.ie/6-irish-hampers as an example .

I am guessing if u search an post website they would have something about mauling food stuffs internationally as well .

It's a lovely thought by the way

No fresh food, meat products, fruit or veg can be sent.

Make sure that all the food you buy stays in it packages they came in.

Make sure that the box you are sending them in is solid and then wraped it well in brown paper or something so it wouldn't open in transit. These packages get banged around a bit in transit so make sure it is strong. Something like bubble wrap inside the box will prevent items getting damaged.

When you post the item you will be asked to fill out a custom declaration form. Just state that it is food in the box (I am not sure if you give the details of the what food it is but the post office will advise). Make sure if you include anything else in the pack like magazines, photos etc that you state that on the declaration form as well.

Anything bigger than package size (pretty small) is deemed to be a parcel by An Post regardless of weight and costs € 22.00 to post so you may be better off buying a hamper on line from Taste Ireland or some similar Company based in Oz so you are spending your money on products rather than postage.

I sent an A3 size jiffy bag envelope to my GF in New Zealand with An Post and it cost €10.75, although I'm not sure when does a package become a parcel??

"Maximum dimensions: for a packet are a combined length, height and depth of 900mm. No individual dimension can exceed 600mm, with a tolerance of 2mm.
In tube form the maximum dimensions are the length plus twice the diameter 1,040mm with no one dimension exceeding 900mm, with a tolerance of 2mm.Weight:Items which qualify for the Packet rate of postage must weigh no more than 2kg."

This apparently is a package. A package with any quantity of food items would definitely qualify as a parcel. It's such a pain to buy a present to post to Oz only to get to the Post Office and discover the postage cost more than the present.
