Ah it's not bad Blade. But it's a bit dirty. Give it a good scrub with a wire brush to bring up the shine a bit.

You're such a n00b dude, don't you know you're supposed to dip it in Coca Cola overnight... and then scrub it with a wire brush! :P

    Blade,
I'm not a coin guy, but I am assuming that this is a joke with a faked date... yes?

    Regards - Dan

OK Blade, Apologies for the rolleyes.
But my question was a genuine one. The 3 in that date does look very suspicious - the font looks wrong and there seems to be a shadow and marks behind as if a different number had been removed.

I just thought by your initial comment and the 'wink' emoticon that it was a joke.

Ok grand thanks. Well that's the thing it's not a joke. From a numismatic stand point it's a little gem of a forgery and believe it or not would fetch quite a few quid sold as such. I've seen some more obvious fakes of 1943 florins sell for a couple of hundred Euro. But the patina on a copper of this age is harder to fake. I actually don't know if this was crafted at the time and has naturally toned or if a fake patina was added. Either way that side of it was done very well and looks natural enough. I was told that the 3 was cut from a British penny, hence the font difference. An interesting piece all the same.

I have a big cigar box of old pennies. Weirdly, one or two are still shiny, some hapennies of the current monarch. 1938 must be a good year.
