I was asked by a neighbour to advise on the switchover options for the over 75 person living in a rural area, and to help with understanding the "Guide to switchover"and "Switchover help scheme" leaflets that came in the post.
Below are direct quotes from the literature ,I leave it to others to comment.
Q.Do I need to get a new TV?
A Most digital boxes connect to a TV using a SCART cable. If your TV doesn't have a SCART socket, you will need to ask for a digital box with a built-in "RF modulator"

Q.Will my video or DVD recorder still work?
    A. Yes.However, unless it is a digital recorder,it won't be able to record one channel whilst you are watching another.

    Q.Will my aerial still work?
    A. You may need a second aerial to receive TG4,RTE One and RTE Two.

Freeview signals from the Black Mountain transmitter (not on the enclosed Tx map) will broadcast TG4,RTE one and RTE two.

The channels will be broadcast in standard definition, but Freeview HD equipment will be required to receive them.

    Saorview.
If a Saorview signal is available in your area,Saorview equipment will provide TG4,RTE One and RTE Two and other channels.
Certain newer Freeview digital TV's and boxes-HD or "MPEG 4 " standard-may also be used to receive Saorview channels.

Q.Can I buy a Saorview box to get digital TV?
A.If you purchase a Saorview TV or box it will pick up Freeview and Saorview TV services where they are available.
Some UK channel functionality, for example the channel order and subtitles services may vary.

I won't get into the 5 options available to the over 75,or the fact that the "How do I set up my digital TV equipment? diagram makes no mention of HDMI cable.

    Thats clear then.
