He's hardly old enough to qualify for the RTE Redundancy Package. Best of luck to him in whatever he does.

The most entertaining thing about Con Murphy was when the lads on Off The Ball would rip the p!ss out of his sports blogs :D

He's leaving to spend more time playing cards I expect.

An excellent broadcaster and had a very good manner about him. Big loss to RTE.

I couldn't believe it when I read it in the Times this morning: really liked his style and his departure can't be good news for the station

I was searching earlier, and somebody on one of the football forums said that he announced he was leaving on MNS (Monday Night Soccer) earlier this week, and that he took redundancy from RTE..

There seems to be a trend emerging lately with a lot of presenters leaving.First Brian O O'Connell, Charlie Bird and now Con Murphy.Whos next, Marian Finucane? Ryan Tubridy? Joe Duffy?:p

what happens to MNS? that was Con's baby. He was very good - even if he is a rovers fan

She has already ruined the Against The Head programme after taking it over from Con.

I like Con, good presenter. Much much better than that bumbling mumbling idiot Des Cahill

He must have something lined up. A move to the UK perhaps?

I think he mentioned some sort of job with one of the LOI teams but that could have been a joke.

Uh old biddies? Plenty of old lads complaining too! :p
Anyway getting off topic. Con is one of the best presenters RTE have had in a long time. Their loss. :)

He wasn't there late 93 anyway. Darragh Moloney, Adrian Eames and David Kelly were the sports department then.

All now at RTE, although Kelly took the scenic route via TodayFM and TV3

I never knew he'd gone. Having googled it, it was announced when I was on my holidays. Best of luck to him, TBH.

Edit : My 2222th post - the twoth, the whole twoth and nothing but the twoth :)

Has anyone got a link to back this up? I seriously seriously doubt he's leaving RTE. He's an RTE lifer if ever I saw one.He sounds far too comfortable in RTE and their overstaffed sports dept.

It's true alright yosser.. it was announced last week.. I heard it myself..

    http://foot.ie/threads/172038-Con-Murphy-leaving-MNS

    http://www.thefreekick.com/board/topic/12516-rte-correspondents/page__st__80

links to it above as well.. I disagree with you though, I think he's great..

Seems to be the same with all areas of the public service though, all the good people are taking redundancy and all the dead wood on big wages are staying..
