Is there an easy way of doing this? I've tried with vlc direct pro and emit, but unsuccessful so far in getting it to work.

Any other better options for me to try?

Es file explorer and then play them with mobo player.

Xbmc is available for android but is in first release, buggy and no hardware acceleration. It will get updates though, the Xbmc community is just amazing. When it does it will turn any android device into a fully fledged media player

I stream all our movies/music/pictures from the desktop using Tversity. Then i just enter the tversity ip address into opera browser on the phone, and use mxplayer which can play anything. sorted.

p.s: it helps if your source has a static ip address

+1 for XMBC - I've tried alot of different apps and this is the one that I use the most. I've had no issues in terms of bugs etc.

Gmote gets my vote, just install the desktop client select what folders you want to be able to see and your away.

Also you can control your pc using the phone as a keyboard and track pad.

Would like to try the es file explorer method. Can't find a youtube video which shows how to get it set up with pc etc?

Just share the folder on the PC. Sharing needs a password, it doesn't work well if the user on the PC logs in automatically.

Do I need to install a client on the pc as well or just the es explorer app on the device is enough?

No client needed, it uses Samba to connect to Windows shares. In ES Explorer go to Lan and do a scan, it should find all the PC's in your house. You'll need to know your PC's IP address, you can get this by opening command prompt and typing "ipconfig /all", it will be listed as something like 192.168.0.11 etc.
