Have you confirmed the irish Analogue signal? If so list all the channels you get.

Are there two connections on the wall, TV and SAT? or just one?

Is there just one satellite outlet or two?

For the satellite outlet is it an adapter than needs power (fibre) or a wall plate? Do you have outlets in other rooms and if so what are these and have you tested them?

Is UPC an option where you live?

It could be some kind of in-house cable tv system. Maybe the Irish channels are off-air terrestrial. Can you list the UHF or VHF channel nos. for the 4 Irish channels? You might find them via 'info' or the tv's tuning menu.

This is the list per TV

    615Mhz-RTE 1
    647Mhz-N2
    671Mhx-TV 3
    551mHz-tg4

Three of those anyway are used by transmitters receivable in Cork city. Is that where you are?

Apparently both terrestrial and satellite signals come down the one channel. Will I have to spilt these signals somehow? Could I test the sat signals with a satellite receiver? Tks

You could use a satellite/terrestrial splitter like this: http://www.labgear.co.uk/category/satellite/satellite-accessories/uhf-satellite-combiner-/1008/1048/129/

Would usually be built into the wallplate in an apartment system, so there is a possibility that this system was not originally specced for satellite signals & might underperform.

You should try to get a loan of a satellite receiver such as a Sky box etc and connect it to the wall outlet and see if it can get a signal. If the satellite box works then you can get a combo box. You would also need that splitter shown above. This seperates the satellite and terrestrial channels so you can connect them to the two different connections on the combo box. I would not go buying anything until you confirm there is really a satellite signal on the cable.

Tks all. Got wall outlet with splitter and hooked up a sat receiver. Sat signal present but very poor at 63% so I'll have to try and check various connections along the way including a junction/splitter in our storage cupboard.

When you say a wall outlet with spliter is there one inlet at the back and two outlets at the front labelled TV and Sat?

63% depending on the box may be OK if the picture is not freezing. Try removing your wall outlet to see if it the problem and connect directly to the satellite box.

Yes one back and two outlets.

OK will give that a shot.
