References on a CV

I'm currently in full time employment and was working away happily until I came across a vacant position in a company I've been interested in for some time.

I've gained most of my experience with my current employer and spend most of CV and cover letter discussing this. I'm just applying on the off chance I get the job (no harm in trying) but due to the nature of my current manager I really don't want her to find out that I've done so on the off chance I don't get the job.

I was planning on using my old references that got me my current job but a relative advises that I should have my current workplace down, I'm quite afraid to do this just in case contact without consent is made or any contact is made tbh due to my mangers nature.

Is it ok for me to list references on request at the bottom of my CV or should I just list my two older employers and hope for the best? Is it true that references are only checked after the job offer has been accepted?

    Thanks.

I just put 'References on Request' on mine. That way I control the references, and will only contact my referees at the appropriate time. Usually, employers will ask for a reference from your last employer anyway. Would you be able to refer them to the HR dept if you don't want your manager to know? Or even a friendly manager/supervisor??
