Was buying a few bits on CR earlier this morning, had the items in my basket but then had to go out and didn't have time to finish the purchace.

Anyway I came back to it this avo and I notice all the prices have risen by a few euros. I checked back on their site and I notice everything I looked at has gone up.

This has happened before when I was watching a bike as a sale item, on that occassion I just presumed I missed the sale.

Anyone else have any similar experience. BTW I didn't buy at the inflated price. Seems a bit rich, can they recognise my IP address and make adjustments or am I looking to far into it.

That's normally what happens - default is UK, but as soon as you put Ireland in as location the Irish VAT rate is applied (particularly relevant on helmets which are zero-rated in the UK but subject to 23% VAT in Ireland)

Just checked CR and for some reason the prices were displayed in Aus dollars. Changed to Euros and the prices are the same as this morning.

Anytime I have previously used the site it always displayes in Euro and dispatch to Ireland, this never happened before.

Do I feel stupid 'YES' but thanks for the replies.

Probably the VAT thing as said above

That said, CRC, Wiggle etc change their prices really frequently so it could be that as well. Often keep an eye on something I want and it goes up or down the whole time.

Not questioning your superior knowledge but I know a certain airline website employs the cookie thing.
Price a flight on your pc. Leave it for a while. Come back to it on the same pc (ip addy) and its the same. Get someone else to check the same flight on a diff ip addy and its prob different.

CRC also have had sales which end at random times during the day and not at midnight on that date so what might be on sale in the morning may be back at the regular price in the afternoon.

For some reason CRC pricing on my iPad is now displayed in Aus $ too! Even if I change it to € it reverts to $ the next time I log on .... very odd!

Why would a uk company charge a different VAT rate to an Irish Customer? They should charge the UK Vat Number as that is their country of origin. Should zero vat rates for helmets in the uk not be zero for Ireland also? I have bought a few machines from the uk and have always been charged the UK Vat rate as opposed to the Irish VAT Rate.

    ??

Because they do a substantial trade with RoI customers CRC are registered for Irish VAT as are a number of other online retailers. I don't know what the threshold is but I understand that above a certain turnover to Irish customers a company must register for Irish VAT!

As far as I know, if they are charging Irish VAT, they should quote in Euro. By this I mean, you should be billed in Euro and not given a Euro equivalent to a STG price.

I've bought a few things off them and always got charged in STG, so I just presumed it was UK VAT. I must look into it.

They do quote in Euro, and you are billed in euro, at least I was why I bought a rear derailluer last friday.

As soon as you select Ireland as delivery destination the prices are changed.

Alternatively you can change the local setting at the top right of the page by clicking the flag (whatever it may be at the time) and selecting Ireland, euros and english in the drop down menu.

yea I know they do qiuote in Euro. But they charge you in STG, so the Euro price you see, is an approximate value based on exchange rate. By the time they atually charge you, the Euro price may be different.

I bought this http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=51058 priced as you can see at €37.15 but the charge that hit my credit card was €39.69. this is because they actually charged me in STG and the converted rate worked out at €39.69. Could have equally been €35.45 if the exchange rate had of swayed the other way.

    Weird.

I just bought this dereailleur and i was invoiced €12.79 and charged €12.79

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=26502

The price displayed is the price I paid.

The money was credited from my account instantly.

If were charged more than the price displayed I'd shoot off a little ranty email and see if they can maybe try make it up to you :)
