Article Scanner

I work in a hospital part time and carry out some research. Alot of articles are only available in print and as such need to be photocopied if I need a copy.

Does a device exist to simply scan pages and then use OCR to create a copy on my computer? One that can be hand held, not a document scanned as I cannot bring that in to a library.

I am not sure about copyright issues but I think it is OK for research and if only copying a certain amount for teaching and research.

    Anyway any thoughts appreciated.

If you have a smartphone, there are many free apps which will do the job.
For example, I use DocScan on the iPhone which allows me to take multiple pics, alter the shape of the scan so that the result is rectangular (if your pic has been taken at an angle), and save in PDF format.
ImageToText is another free app which performs OCR on taxi in a picture.
