    Careerzoo - dublin

    I am a s/w engineer.
Does it worth going to careerzoo where i can get a chance to boost my career.
There are big names like microsoft...and they say more than 4000 jobs...
but dont know what type of positions are offered....

I have another engagement same day...
So confused whether it worth to go for a professional like me...

or is it just some colleges offering courses and some recruitment collecting CV's...

    anybody experinced in previous careerzoo's

    Couldn't do any harm.

I was just checking it out myself this morning, had a look at this article - http://www.siliconrepublic.com/careers/item/29024-career-zoo-organisers/.

There are some colleges there, but it looks like more of a recruitment fair, with big companies like Microsoft, Amazon and Twitter looking to recruit, also career workshops and advice.

If you have the time, it could be worth a look!

I was at the last one, most of the companies there have a list of positions available, i'm sure as a software engineer there will be plenty of opportunities for yourself

the only thing is, i assume these companies are also advertising on job sites so you might be as well just to apply there and save yourself the hassle.

Were they all jobs expecting a high level of experience and qualifications? or would it be a mix?

Have a 'ticket' but anticipate it being pretty jammers and not being able to get near to recruiters to talk to them?

you'll get a chance to talk to anyone you want to as they only allow a certain amount into the building at any one time. so there's a bit of queuing involved to get in

From an IT perspective there was a mix, there were graduate jobs, high end jobs and more run in the mill stuff that would have suited myself(standard degree and few years experience).

Again, you'd have to wonder if any of the jobs aren't already available to apply for online and if so whats the point really?! I guess they might like the cut of your jib and put a good word in for you regards the interview but that's all I can think of!

Was at it today, and really I'm in two minds whether it was worth going to or not, some stands just had a note to email your CV to an address and most of the people at the stands weren't decision makers just people who worked for the companies and got roped into doing a PR exercise for the day. A lot had stands had sheets of paper with there positions available but I was told that I was better off emailing the CV instead of giving them the CV. I found some of the Tech Box lectures interesting but the speakers were boring enough with thir talk of "We are looking for talented people", "We know Ireland can provide this bla, bla, bla"

As for 4,000 jobs on offer maybe there was but tomorrow there's going to be the same 4,000 jobs on offer as no jobs were awarded today or interviews took place and there all still available on their company website. I don't really know what the companies there are going to gain from being there except more exposure and possibly some new candidates may have found out about them.

On the plus side I got a few new pens and Keyrings and a water bottle from the twitter stand(the only suitable jobs had for me was outside Europe)

Totally agree. I was at the event in Feb and found it very full and hard to speak to interviewers especially some who could not be bothered speaking to you or who have spoken to God knows how many people beforehand and were not interested anymore. Sounded a bit like a jobs cattle mart! Decided this time therefore not to go but check out alternative means.

I heard the radio advertisement for this and went to see in particular the 'intensive six month courses' that were to be there. Problem was I saw nothing like this at Career Zoo. I realised there was the likes of DIT among others there but as I went to each stand I was met with a blank face.

Anyone know what they were talking about or eve better can anyone suggest a place that carries out six month courses that can provide an IT job?

Just bumping up this thread as the Career Zoo is on this Saturday 9th Feb in the Convention Centre, per irish Jobs webiste.
Reading the above comments it didn't sound great in the past, is it free to get in? Is it worth printing out CVs to hand out?

It was a big bunch of meh

About a third of the space is allocated to 3rd level courses.
Only about half of the stands are actually companies recruiting.

Of that, unless you have a software/engineering background there's only a sparse number of stands that will be of interest. All of the jobs that these companies are offering are already listed online and you nearly always have to apply online regardless.

Like most fairs, it's debatable if you should bring along a CV. It depends on the approach you wish to take.

Careers fairs simply give you the opportunity to see which employers are in the jobs market and what they're seeking. It gives the company an outlet to remind people that they're hiring

Yeah I went along today & thought it was pretty crap. Going in I was interested in 3 companies, one of them accepted my printed CV today and they all said to submit my CV online.
There was a guy giving a talk on interview preparation & techniques, that was useful so it wasn't a complete waste of time.
