Do you know when the person's birth date is? Do you know his/her parents' names?

There is an online index (only) of birth registrations but it only goes up to 1958.

You have a few issues in using it.

    1) S/he may have been born in the last two years and therefore an index won't be online, in which case you'll need to go into the reading room in the Irish Life Centre.

    2) Could have been born in any of the Dublin hospitals (which cover 2 different registration districts) or in St Margarets (which I think may count as the Balbriggan district)

    3) It was 50 plus years ago so the address of the parents is very unlikely to help you trace the person now.

    4) There may be more than one person with the name in the right decade, which will mean you'll need to order all the birth certs to find the correct one. Luckily the GRO reading room has just increased the number of copy certs available per day to 8.

I think I saw you post on another forum about this - did you go down the parish records route? You'll more easily find a baptism record if you're sure the person was christened in the St Margarets church - if you get a tame priest who likes a good mystery, that is. :D
