    Hi there

I have recently just started to look for work after a four year absence from the working world. So far its going good despite the fact that I have very specific hours that I can work- evening and weekends at certain times. Anyway this week I have been to three interviews and have another two for next week and I have only sent out a few CVs.

The first interview I had was advertised with Bluebird Care Limited. Everything seemed to be going perfect I accepted the 13.5 hour shifts EVER second day and was then told that I would get a set shift price of €90 for my 13.5 hour shifts. Is it just me or is €6.60 for evening work the most outrageous and ILLEGAL thing you have ever heard! Needless to say I turned that job down and was questioned by the staff in a hostile manner as to what did i expect, when I indicated that all I expected was the legal minimum wage it did not go well. unbelievable!

The next thing that has shocked me about the interviews I have attended are the new-to-me requirements of "training in". I had been told by a company yesterday that if I were successful for the position of two shifts per week I would need to do two weeks unpaid training Monday to Friday 9am-4pm before I was accepted for the paid position despite the fact that the job I am applying for is specifically evenings and weekends as I cannot work during the day. After the training I would have a two week trial before I was offered a contract. Is this normal? Maybe it is now. Has this world gone mad? I am ranting I know but one company trying to shaft me and give me illegal wages and another telling me I have to work for free (and pay a babysitter for two weeks) before I can do a company trial. I mean Im not rocket scientist, i would have to set fire to a cup of coffee to do any damage in the second company!

I think you need to live in the real world,at the moment its an employers market and you sound very inflexible, i do agree however that 90 euros for 13.5 hour shift is outrageous, personally if i was out of work i would have found a way to do the training with the 2nd company as you had a job at the end of it
Good luck with finding work tho..

Sokie26, you were lucky, you were offered a job. I wasn't even asked for interview with this company. They advertised for three months work for polish speaking carer. I am fully qualified, flexible, well experienced and speaking with three languages, polish included. When I called them the manager always kindly promised to contact soon. Never happened it. That is all right. Job market belongs to employers now. I will get a job anyway :)) keeping positive.
