Anyone play this in the last month? Are the bunkers still in bad condition?

Anyone have any update on the above? Due to play this also in the next two weeks with a work society outing so anything we need to be aware off? I presume the course will advise if the bunkers are concrete like and recommend playing rake and place to avoid the dangers of breaking a club or wrist trying to flop one out. Thanks

Interested just out of curiosity to know if anyone was out recently. I was there for the boards outing and I wouldnt recommend it to anyone, especially for the price.

Lovely design and setting, terrible condition and maintenance. Bunkers were out of play and have been for some time afaik. Greens were in tatters

Played it today, greens were excellent but the bunkers were atrocious. Overall the course condition was good considering the recent weather. Placing everywhere and lift rake & place in bunkers, however we decided to have them out of play. Place was generally wet with some balls plugging on fairways.

    Thankfully today's round was a freebie :D

    4 par 5's index 1,2,3 & 4. Worth a visit but wouldn't pay anymore than 30 euro.

To follow up, played this on Sat in glorious sunny weather in a small society for a rate of €35. Arrived at the course to find that the bunkers were all out of play. With all the rain on Thurs they were saying they had the option of pumping out all the water from the bunkers on Fri and getting them somewhat playable or alternatively given that they now only have 4 greenkeepers/ground staff of cutting the greens. They advised greens and fairways were in good condition and rough somewhat soggy/wet so it was placing everywhere. Normally they play rake & place in the bunkers but since a number of bunkers were more akin to water hazards they were recommending them as out of play.

The advise given in the pro shop was accurate and fair, greens and fairways were in very good condition for this time of year. Greens quite firm and running fairly fast and true apart from the odd blemish mainly due to people not repairing pitchmarks correctly. Fairways didn't offer any run but looked well and no balls were plugging. Rough was somewhat soggy/muddy in places and despite the grass not being overly long and punishing we did loose one ball in our 4-ball grouping to a plugged lie. Having chosen to play the long course that is Palmerstown House we choose to play it's full length and play from the Silver tees, tee boxes were all in good condition and firm underfoot with no wet or bare patches. In summary the course from tee to green was in good condition and well worth playing, not disappointed as the bunkers being out of play didn't make a significant difference to the enjoyment.

It was a pity to see the driving range go into disrepair. This used to be a great facility but the proshop advised that given the insufficient drainage they were unable to bring in machinery to cut the grass over the "summer". The chipping green and putting green however are still maintained to a high standard so at least there are some practice facilities.
The locker rooms are a shell of their former self with the LCD TV's removed leaving unpainted balls and exposed wires. No towels on offer either so never enquired if there was actually running hot water for showers. The restaurant was closed with no catering facilities on offer so it's golf only for the foreseeable future.

The bunkers here are simply too big. The one on the par 3 tenth is ridiculous. As a result all have too little sand, have more soil than sand and have grass growing in them. Because of this, they flood quite easy. Shame, as the rest of the course is nice.

Played this yesterday and to my surprise the course was in great nick from tee to green (2 greens had a bit of damage on the back nine bit it looked liked they had been vandalised and were well under repair)

Tee boxes all in great nick,
Fairways were all in great nick ,
Bunkers were mostly in great shape , bar two that I noticed
Greens were really really great bar the two mentioned above !
Rough was tough and a little soggy , best to play out of it rather than take on the shot.

I was pleasantly surprised as had been a little disappointed the last time I played the course

You'll get a round for €23 on teetimes.ie the greens and fairways are in decent shape but it's going to be in ribbons before long if nama don't find a buyer for it.

Played it myself on Saturday for €30 , well worth it. The course was in excellent condition. Shot a gross 84 on the day with a tap in birdie on the index 2 par 5.

    I think it's €25 midweek

Anyone else find it strange that the par 5's are index 1-4. Had 2 birdies and two pars for 14 points last time I played it. (not that I was complaining) ;)

Having played there not really. They are long tough holes with hazards well positioned and insanely protected greens.
What are you playing off it is serious shooting to be -2 for the 4 of them.

Think i Par'd the 9th which is probably the easiest of them. Cant remember how i played the rest of them
Also were the bunkers in play the day you played there? They seem to be mostly out of play.

I have my 4 shots on them. The bunkers were out of play but I didn't manage to find any of them. I'll agree that they are tough but they are still par 5's and I think there are some far tougher par 4's on the course.

Fair enough. For me though bar the 9th, they definitely play the toughest.
