I,M setting up a sky hd box,
    for a relative,
when i try to record on 2 channels, it says recording on 2 channels already.
    i turn off sky box,
i turn it on, i press record sky channel, say discovery 1.
then say i wanna record true movies, press r record,
it says 2 recordings already in progress.
i have 2 cables, one for lnb1, and lnb 2 going into the box.
when i go to planner it says red r,icon, on discovery1,
i can see no other recordings.

SO AT THE MOMENT ,I can record one channel only.
Any advice or info as to what i,m doing wrong would be appreciated.
i cant see any evidence of any 2nd recording , or any 2nd r icon in the planner,or channels menu,s.
The only i see is theres a serious link icon, for munister banisteoir on rte 1,in the planner menu, last item,
    on the screen.

Are you trying to record them simultaneously, afaik you cannot record 2 programmes at the same time.

think you can only record 2 channels at the same time as long as you are watching one of them also

    I think so too.

For Sky + it is effectively recording the channel you are watching so that you can pause it at will and then re-start. This will be one of your two channels being recorded (the watched channel, plus the channel that you have programmed to record).

you can go to services, settings, signal and see if you have signal on both inputs, if not check cables, what make box, is it brand new, if not may have been set for single feed.

Only if you have the latest EPG version which is doubtful to be rolled out fully yet and would only be on SKY+HD boxes

Not true. Have been doing it for years with my old samsung box (still on the old epg)

    Yup, agreed.

Check behind the box to see if you have two aerial cables connected to Dish 1 and Dish 2. If not then it is not possible to record 2 programmes with this setup. Even if you have the 2 cables from the dish there is a "single feed mode" menu option that may be enabled.

As mentioned also check the signal strength and quality in the menu for both feeds.

lnb 1 ,70 per cent quality,
    lnb 2 says zero signal.
i understand its constantly recording live channel, in order to use pause feature.ie whatever u are watching now.
i need a new cable for lnb 2.i know all about fitting lnbs .connectors etc
is it possible to use a special splitter to provide a signal to lnb2,ie split cable in 2
or do i need to get a double lnb twin unit for thedish?

You cannot spit the signal. You need an LNB with 4 connections ( a quad) and a cable to Sat2. If there is a cable already to Sat2 then you probably have a cabling problem. If you never has a cable, your dish may still have 4 connections, then all you need is a new cable and two screw on F type connectors.

one cable comes into apartment ,so i need a new lnb unit.and a new cable run from the dish,.i installed dishes, and lnbs before ,sky and freesat recievers.dish is on roof, of 4 floor apartment.

If you only have one cable run and its relatively short (and premium cable quality) you could probably try a stacker/destacker to get both inputs from a single cable.
    See http://www.tvtrade.ie/global-stacker-destacker.html

SO i,d need to acess the dish and put on another lnb , and join 2 cables to existing cable into apartment , to use the destacker.
building has ,23 apartments, i dont know how ,id identify which cable is my cable to apartment 5.
apartment building is, about 100ft high .
at the moment i dont know, how to acess the roof ,i was never on the top, floor even, theres no fire escape .i know a member of the management company, for the building.
does the power unit go near the sky box, or near the stacker unit, lnb, satellite dish.
theres no chance of me being allowed to put a power unit on the roof.

If the one dish is being used for 23 apartments I would say it is not simply a matter of hooking an extra lead to the dish. It seems as if the whole block is connected to a distribution system.

I would leave any changes to this system to the company that installed it. They would probably charge mad money to add an extra cable to one apartment. However you should find out who installed the system and ask for a quote. If you go messing with the system yourself you could end up cutting off all 23 apartments or damaging critical parts. These type distribution systems are expensive and fickle. They need to be carefully setup and adding extra cables afterwards would be difficult.

Personally I would say leave well alone and contact the suppliers for an upgrade.

I think i,ll just leave it as is,she has all the channels anyway.I dont know if i could get acess to the roof.
