Is there anywhere on campus that I can access hot water or a microwave for free? Sick to my teeth of sandwiches and it was making me broke buying food all the time!

If you are a mature student there is a room beside the bar. If not, buy a good flask :)

I'm not a mature student, but I'm a commuter. It kinda sucks that there's only Londis for the rest of us. They have hot water but is there a microwave no?

This is an age old problem (not unlike myself!) Long story short:

Few years ago the canteen burned down in a massive fire. Since then, fire prevention is a massive health and safety issue - even things like someone putting a still-lit cigarette in a bin is a concern.

So letting students access to microwaves and kettles doesn't really happen because someone might put an action man in the microwave or scald themselves with the kettle. That's one reason.

The other reason is commercial activity in Maynooth, both on campus an off. People don't necessarily want you to be able to bring a packed lunch when you might buy a chicken fillet roll from them instead.

The mature student room has a kettle and microwave. Nobody minds if you use it, but it's not designed for large amounts of traffic.

Alternatively follow someone who lives on campus home and when the open the door to their apartment burst past them and use their appliances.

    Or make friends with them.

Make friends with a postgrad and get them to let you into the postgrad common room on south campus (assuming it's still there?). Microwave, kettle and even a wee fridge in there.

Is that not how you make friends? :P

Just wait for the SU elections circa February/March, you'll be promised all the microwaves and kettles for commuters you'll ever need!

Meh...a microwave isn' much of an election promise, unless it comes attached to a bank link in the SU.

As well as an Olympic-sized swimming pool on north campus. All promises need to be written on the ground in chalk as well.
