Thanks. Is that miles or km? And is it a belt and a chain

Miles and they are a belt.

Shortly to be revised by Drof to 60k or 5 years. Whichever comes first.:D Personally, I'd go to 50k and every 3 years. Ford love overestimating belt change intervals.

My fathers 2004 Mazda 2 has the same engine and he's being advised that its 100k miles.
The belt on this engine is very fiddly to change....it has no key-spline on the crankshaft pulley, it has to be tightened/lined up by friction?!

These are well capable of doing the 100k or 10 years. Have never seen one break prematurely. Changing one every 50k or 3 years is throwing money away. It would actually be cheaper to wait for the belt to break and pay the resulting bill :D

On the topic of these cars belts, the amount of people who I've contacted selling Fiesta's (99,00,01,02) think its only 100,000 and don't take the cars age into account.

true, but the age thing probably isn't as significant as the mileage ,the belt is more likely to wear than rot in other words. The ten years is a catch-all ,a bit like saying a service interval is 10000km or 12 months.

You see a multitude of Fiestas for sale with mileage in the 90s, i think people sell them rather than pay a couple of hundred out on something they cant see !. In all cases you would need to assume the belt has NOT been done and do not rely on Tippex!

Sorry to bring up an old thread, I have a 2005 ford fiesta 1.25 Zetec, it has 93,000 kms on the clock. Would the Timing belt need changing on it?

Yes, For the Mk6 Fiesta Ford reccomend 160k KM or every 8 years.
