    Hi all,

I am staring this autumn in one of the big 4. Now I have to choose between Evening/Weekends and Block Release programs to study CAP 1.

Does any one could give me any suggestions on these 2 programs?

    Thanks in advance! :)

The block release time will reduce your summer study leave, right?
If so, go evening/weekends. Even if you don't make it to all the lectures, it's better to catch them here and there and then have plenty of time for structured revision.

From our timetable Block Release start from the 6th Oct 2012 and end on the 28th April 2013.
Evening/Weekends lectures start from the 1 Oct 2012 and end on the 15th April 2013.
Block Release ends 13 days later than Evening lectures.

Dose people choose Evening Lectures will miss a lot of classes because of the work load?

If you work in audit you should have plenty of time to build up toil.
Also worth considering that in block you have a 7 hour lecture in one subject which is quite tedious.
Just sat them this year and did block and passed all first time best of luck.

What I meant is: How many weeks does your firm give you off in the summer for CAP 1?
And if you choose block release, by how much is this reduced?

Well however many weeks you are on block will be charged as study leave but as I said if you are working in audit you will build up a lot of time off through over time.
Also remember that yoy will probably have weekends as well if you do block you just won't have the joy of going to a lecture after a day working thats why I prefer it.
I did cap2 via block and found it fine.

    Congratulations!

Yes, I am doing Audit. I am not sure if I choose Evening lectures during the busy seasons if I still able to make to my evening lectures. I heard there will be a lot of over time during Jan to Mar.

    Right, thanks for your advise.

I am doing 3 subjects on CAP1 this year, not many lectures, hopefully i will do well next summer.

    Ah, I got you.

On block release if the lectures on week days those will be deducted from my study leaves. I think we will have 6 weeks for CAP1.

You will need those six weeks. Especially since Tax is billed as a 'half' subject but actually has massive course content.

Other posters are saying that you may be able to use overtime to have both the block release and the 6 weeks. You should check this with the firm. Two weeks of block release, deducted from overall study leave, is mandatory for FAEs yet my firm did not permit anybody to leave earlier that summer.

Keep in mind that the Institute mandates 4 weeks for CAP 1. The extra 2 weeks your firm gives is on the assumption that you'll work up 2 weeks' worth of overtime. It's possible that you won't even be able to work up those - I didn't in 1st year, kept being put on no-overtime jobs.

When I start work in about 3 weeks, I will check with my firm about study leaves.

Because I exempted 2 subjects out of CAP1, I only need to do Finance, Law and Tax. Look at the Evening/Weekend lecture time table, in average I only need to go to evening classes 2-3 times every month, so I think this isn't too bad. Trying to leave enough study leaves for structured review in the end.

Thanks for your advise, best luck with your FAE study this year!
