MPRN what's the story?

Who owns the esb meter at your house ? Is it the property of ESB networks or the home owner?
I am just wondering as the Meter Point Reference Number associated with the meter is unique to every meter in the country so as such every house/apartment already has a unique identification number and the MPRN database would be very valuable to a government who is trying to introduce a property tax and also figure out what houses have actually paid the current household charge.

I was looking a the septic tank registration website and it asks you to submit a MPRN for the property where the septic tank is located but it's optional which suggests the Dept. of Enviroment dont have the power to make you give them a MPRN. And as the MPRN forms part of your account information with your electric supplier can the government bring about a way of making ESB hand over the information?

The act allows additional information to be sought to identify non-payers, including the sourcing of information from third parties like the ESB.

However, it is something that they need to invoke - they don't necessarily need the MRPN from people who have paid the charge.

ESB own the meter. That's why tampering with them is a criminal offence.

I actually didn't know that, I knew to tamper is an offence, but didn't know that. Thanks :)

I remember way back yonder, having an argument with Eircom to install a landline, they were charging in or around 120/150 for the installation, I (unsuccessfully) argued it was THEIR line in MY home they were fixing, but I was to rent the line off them, so effectively, why should I pay them, to fix or check, or whatever their line, when I was going to be paying/renting it at a cost every month......shower of w..........
