The Black Box Theatre was literally kicking with athmosphere on Saturday night and it was high octane, non stop action all the way when the "Fist Of Fury" Kickboxing & K-1 promotion got underway.
As far as Kickboxing shows goes, this has to rank up there with the best of them and all the fighters who travelled from various parts of the country and even as far afield as France and of course the hom
    e fighters, gave it everything.
There was eleven electrifiyng bouts on the card including four IKF All Ireland Titles and an International K-1 Superfight and a good mix of experienced campaigners and debut fighters, there was knockouts, distance fights, titles changing hands, new champions crowned etc and all in all, a great night for the exciting sport of Kickboxing.
The main event between Galways Bryan Merrigan and Michael Gerard from France ended early as the Frenchman caught Merrigan with a vicious right hook to the jaw in round one and the referee called the fight off.
The Galway Black Dragon Club lifted three National Titles and their sister club, the Donegal Black Dragon Club also won a National Title.
Amy Wilson (formerly of Galway Black Dragon) from the Donegal Club fought Gillian Duffy from Global Kickboxing in Dublin and won a unanimous points victory to claim the IKF Ladies All Ireland Light Welterweight Crown.
Shane Creaven from the Galway Black Dragon Club and sponsored by Lydons Bar of Knockdoe took on Keith Shelly who also fights out of the well respected Global Kickboxing Gym in Dublin. This was the pairs second time to meet and Creaven made it two out of two after a hard fought battle over five rounds with the teak tough Shelly to lift the vacant IKF All Ireland Light Heavyweight Title.
Paul "Hurricane" Huish was all business when he went to the ring to take on the current IKF All Ireland Welterweight Champion Evan Walker who fights out of Jimmy Courtneys gym in Dublin.
Walker, who has a "fight all comers attitude" came to the ring looking trim and fit and was a good four inches taller than Huish but true to his name, the Hurricane blew in and gave a master class of text book kickboxing to rip the title from the plucky Dublin fighter.
Although Walker boxed really well, Huish landed kick after kick to his lead leg as well as several high kicks to the head and he even threw a spectacular spinning backfist that, if it landed on the button, would have surely finished the contest.
The fight went the championship distance and Huish became Galways next All Ireland Champion.
Charlie "The Iceman" Ward was the last title fight of the night and he took on Dublins Eric Nolan for the recently vacated IKF All Ireland Super Welterweight Crown.
This was always going to be a cracker of a fight as both young men have been very busy on the International circuit lately with having Nolan been over and back to the UK for some big fights and Ward having won a silver medal at the IKF World Champioonships in Florida in July.
Right from the bell to sound the opening round, both warriors went at it hammer and tongs and it was action all the way until round four when Ward landed a mighty uppercut which had the Brave Nolan out on his feet but then he landed a picture perfect right hook to seal the deal and Ward had won the Title by Knockout.
The roof almost came off the Black Box such was the roars from the fired up fight fans and a new superstar was born.
