Looked out the window after a weeks holidays & the " behind & up a few" neighbour has knocked their conservatory & built a fairly substantial extension out the back : I recon it almost doubles the size of the ground floor of the house - we're in a terrace in an estate! The issue is; they're erected a huge A frame which I'm guessing will be an atrium double height roof onto this extension; it just goes up to the bottom of the bedroom window.
    Q is; don't you need planning permission for a non-flat roof / it's very high & steep pitch & in a terrace.

    Advise would be welcome.
There was no planning permission sought.

No, not necessarily. Some extensions to the rear of a house are exempt but subject to certain conditions - see here
