    Belarus tractors

Most people ranked them in with Zetor and Ursus

Not too sure about the new ones, as they have improved on the technology in them but the old ones were rugged workhorse but a bit un refined.

They were cheap horsepower but had, and probably still have, very poor resale value. Some were renowned as a pig to start in the cold. They had tremendous torque and were a great pulling tractor.

Many of them on the secondhand market have had a hard life, A good few were in forestry and bog work, Getting a second hand one that is well look after might be a challenge

They are still sold new here in Ireland, loads of ads on dondeal for them, and the technology in them is better, but not near the same standard as the more common brands, but the price also reflects too, so it balances out.

They are a decent work horse in my opinion, but wouldn't be too sure if they are a good investment

They are a lovely yolk until you go to do anything with them. Not so much horse power, but the ability to stay going because of long stroke.

Zetor were/are streets ahead of both in terms of sales in this country.

I know, but most people lumped the three together when comparing eastern tractors to western ones

Personally I'd go for a Zetor myself, whether your buying new or secondhand, Many Ursus tractors of the 80's were actually copys of Zetors

Not so much a copy - Ursus (Poland) and Zetor (Czech) were all part of the old USSR back when and worked off the same 'drawings' they were given. No room for creativity or innovation back then in the greater communist plan.
Different today, ,,, free nations and private sector.

Universal from Romania was another, taken in by Curley's of Kiltormer.
Belarus was from Bielorussia back then.

Ursus tractors bore a striking resemblance to Massey ferguson tractors for a time too and after the iron curtain fell. They seem to have a penchant for looking over the shoulders of other designers .

Word was that MF was in talks with them shortly after the 'wall fell'.
    Never happened.

Yes " reverse engineering " is quite a common theme from Central Europe to Far East.
As the new saying goes ... "If you can make it, Ch1na can fake it" applies universally.
The money saved on R&D goes into improved quality,,,, have you not noticed that? :D

my best advice is steer clear,
The father has a 93 862 with under 3000hrs on it.
It has had 2 half shafts(common problem), housing for half shaft, new starter motor as the housing cracked, ring gear is worn as well, new brakes which still are poor,
The position control for the lift gave up and was removed(common)
It burns off front tyres (common) and has a poor lock (steering)

I have driven zetors and ursus for years and would rate them way above the belarus.

I was told last week that there could be a problem buying a new belarus as they dont meet the emmissions required for sale in the eu
