I really liked it - thought it was much better than most of season 7!

Enjoyed the episode. The guy playing Klaus was quite good :) .

Indeed, exaggerated Cherman accents and overtired parents are entirely unprecedented comedic devices.

At this stage I'm not sure I give a crap how he met their mother. We're a long, long way away from "Ha-ve ya met Ted?"

They'd want to pick up their game pretty sharpish, I barely made it through last season.

Mediocre episode with some great music by Band Of Horses (playing The Olympia next month).

Lots of tired jokes. Only funnybit was Barney condensing the Robin love story into 60 seconds.

Best part though was that it pretty much promised us that we'd find out who the mother was this year.

A few things from the 1st episode....

How come the mother had the yellow umbrella? Did she not leave it at the club on Paddys Day years ago and Ted found it? Have I missed something or is it that she got a new yellow umbrella?

I take it the mother was a musician at Barney and Robin's wedding. So can we rule out Barney's sister as being the mother?

Remember Ted dated Cindy - who was the mothers roomate who was Ted's ideal girl (played bass etc.). When he was there he left the umbrella.
I've said for ages that the mother would be the bass player in the band for Barney and Robin's wedding.

I've actually forgotten what happened at the end of last year. did Robin and Barney get married? How did they get back together? That Brooke character is brutal.

They just revealed Robin as the bride. They haven't gotten back together yet.

    Who's Brooke?

Sorry, Quinn. Not sure where I got Brooke from .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,246 ✭✭✭alroley

    I agree!
I think Barney breaks up with her in next episode - it's very early on this season anyway.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 35,731 Mod ✭✭✭✭pickarooney

It was obvious from day one that
    they would break up
so it was a complete waste of time
bringing in this unlikable, unfunny character
    .

They needed another bride candiate since Nora was gone and Becki Newton is in their new show so nice publicity for her/the show. It was obvious since the beginning of season 6 that Barney/Robin would be endgame.

Does Barney have a sister? I thought that was Ted. Barney has a Brother.

When Barney's Dad (John Lithgow) was in introduced it was revealed that he had two other kids (Barney's half brother and sister). His brother appeared in an episode or 2 but his sister didnt. Barney's Dad said she was away at college. So the mystery around her led many (myself included) to believe she was the mother as it was possible she would be attending the wedding and would not have met Ted before that.

I do hope this is the last season it deserves to be finished.

I didn't mind this episode too much thought there was a few funny moments while i don't like the "brooke" :P character she doesn't annoy me that much, as lets face it barney should end up dating a stripper at some point!

I liked the whole sum everything up in 60 seconds, just shows ted could tell his kid this entire story in a couple mins!!

thats due to expire on the 6th of may next year, so will barney get a slap off marshall to help get him up the aisle i wonder:D

i kind of want ted to met the mother at the wedding this season, and then have 1 more season, with ted dating the mother and then end the show on season 9 with the mother pregnant,

dont recall a half brother on his fathers side, barneys half brother that i recall is the black guy, whos barneys half brother on his mothers side, i do recall his father mention a daughter alright, who was at college and is probably studying in that class that ted hijacked on his first day of teaching,

I want it to end as soon as he meets the mother. The last line on the show should be "and that kids is the story of how I met your mother"

His half brother was very young - JJ(Jerome Junior) - remember Barney was jealous of him.

A little off topic but HIMYM have released their soundtrack of songs from all the seasons. Worth a download, had the album on repeat all day :P

    <SNIP>

MOD EDIT: Someone just bounded up a collection of all music and put it on a torrent site. Please don't post it here again!

There actually was an official soundtrack released last week though.

Whoops, a confusion here. Alroley is right, the official soundtrack was released on the night of the Season 8 Premiere last week. Just posted the link up here in case anyone wanted a copy of it. Sorry .___.

I noticed it in HIMYM but has anyone else noticed all the US shows sounding a bit different since the start of this season?

I always think that on Irish TV some shows sound a higher pitch (I noticed it with Parks and Recreation and New Girl).

Can't say I've noticed it for anything I watch US pace.

I dunno, a lot of the actors' voices seem different, almost more refined in terms of clarity or something. Meh, I must just be going mad. :pac:

I felt the same way watching Modern Family, everyone's voices seemed deeper. especially Cam

The opening credits to HIMYM always sound weird when I watch the American broadcast compared to the Irish one, I think it's a lower tone or something.

The most recent episode totally sucked btw, and it reminded me of how big a douche Ted is.

Didn't like the second episode much, wasn't that funny and feels like they're dragging the stories out abit!

    .

Is it down to Pal/NTSC frame rates? Though IIRC Pal is a frame faster so should be higher.

You think? Just a little bit dragged out :-)

Shouldn't make a difference at this stage really, audio and video are separate. Also I'm watching on the same equipment as last season so it shouldn't matter.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks something has changed :P

Dunno why I'm still watching the show tbh.

Didn't enjoy the episode last night. I think it would have been cancelled a long time ago if it wasn't for NPH. The Barney character is still funny to me ! :)

Hated the most recent episode - it was just awful.

I haven't watched the last 2 episodes and honestly, I don't want to. I'm currently watching Season 1 on E4 and it reminds me of how great the show used to be. Will someone just PM me when the mother is finally introduced and give me a synopsis? :pac:

1 season too many i think they really need to wrap it up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,908 ✭✭✭Simi

More than 1 season too many at this stage. Sitcoms really shouldn't last more than 5-6 seasons.

Writing wanes, actors lose their enthusiasm (Cobie Smulders might as well be sitting in the corner, silently drinking scotch at this stage), it just gets old. Especially if you needlessly keep up a cheap gimmick that you should have abandoned after being renewed for a second season!

Problem is nobody wants them to end, so they inevitably die a slow painful death instead of aiming to go out on a high.

thought the 3rd episode improved up to about "good" level barney was great in it so was the bit with lilys dad. but i have to agree its been getting bad at this stage i hope it keeps picking up like this and gets the finale it deserves.

I don't know if I have just learnt to tolerate it but I actually enjoyed this episode.

Sure no season 1 but I enjoyed it.

In fairness the episodes that feature a lot of Barney are always quite good :) I was surprised at the episode though, considering they're trying to move things along quite quickly, nothing really happened !

the show lives and dies by what barney is doing, and in this episode he was trying to get laid, which is always good,

but the show is getting dragged down by the stupid dead-end alleys is keeps going down, like at the end of last season barney, robin and ted were all in relationships with other people, and we knew robin was gonna marry barney so that means both their relationships their currently in are gonna end, and we also knew that yerone isnt gonna be the mother so we know teds relationship is also gonna end,

if they wanna create filler they should be doing more adventuring (like licking bells, traveling halfway across country to get a pizza and going on terrible dates) and less relationship stuff that we know is going nowhere,

i dont get why they dont go around asking people about crazy stuff theyve done, and use that, i mean me and my buddies would easily have a few seasons of stuff if we thought about it for a few hours, like most people would,

To be fair, Chris Elliott can be very funny - when he has funny material to work with.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭iguana

Yeah, it's not the actor I object to but the character. It just seems to be the same storyline over and over again between him and Lily. He shows up, is selfish and careless reminding Lily of some crappy event from her childhood so she is angry and unhappy. In the end they make up and come to an understanding, only to revert to square one for his next episode.

Exactly! I was just thinking I thought they had made their peace the last time, and the time before that, but nope it's as if this never happened.

I've taken to half watching the show at this stage - was browsing boards while it was on. At least it's going towards an ending this year.
