WWE.com has learned John Cena had surgery to remove bone chips in his elbow today. Dr. Andrews removed several pieces of bone cartilage from Cena's elbow through a scope. A surgery like this will take four to six weeks to recover.

As more information comes available, WWE.com will inform the WWE Universe.

Interesting to see who steps up against Punk for the next while then? Can't think of any top face that can slot in. Arguably the next two biggest faces Orton and Sheamus are on SD.

Cena's no-selling the injury, recovery time has been updated to 2-3 weeks. Which means he's definitely working the Hell in a Cell PPV in 6 weeks.

4-6 weeks he should be fit for Hell in a Cell in nearly 6 weeks time so. Thats what wwe will be thinking anyway.

This must have been scheduled for a while so they could take advantage of the 6 week gap between ppvs.

I imagine he could still show up in a non-physical role. Especially with the cancer t-shirt deal.

They could even make it part of the storyline. After Cena heals after 4 weeks, pretend he's still injured and have Punk attack his arm.

My instinct and cynical nature would tell me that this is a cheap way to keep Cena and Punk apart for a few weeks....

Considering Cena rushed back from pec & neck surgery far quicker than is generally advisable, I doubt this'll even factor into HiaC. Mind, they'll probably drive it home during the actual bout. Hopefully, giving him an out for losing. I need to see Punk vs Rock, especially the build.

From what I've read, the standard recuperation time on a surgery like this is four months. Granted, Cena, by all accounts, is a genetic anomaly, but you'd have to wonder how much these hasty-returns are impacting upon his long-term wellbeing.

If that was the case surely they would have used his ankle as the excuse not his arm?

Anaconda Vice goes after the arm. They could even claim Punk did it.

I can see them still having him on TV during his recovery time, obviously in a non physical role. Like someone mentioned, getting on board with the cancer awareness month is important for the company
