I remember reading about a breakers in Dublin/Wicklow that allowed you to remove the part yourself. Does anyone know where it is/what it is called?

I don't think there's many of those around anymore official breakers anyway Public liability Insurance would be massive if they let you on site to remove parts.

There's a breakers yard in Dunlaoighre fairly reasonable prices.

Can you not just tell them the part you want or are you trying to bag a few extras while you're at it :D

Spent many an afternoon browsing around out there, need to drop out at the weekend too. The guy that owns it is well dodgy but aren't they all.

Anyone live in London in the early 1990's and remember the huge one that was in Park Royal. Was always getting bits in there for various cars. When you had something under a tenner and you asked the price The Geezer who ran it would always say "Give us a drink", I gave a fiver "a lady godiva". Learned the monkeys and pony's.

It was like a day out, you could have brought lunch. It was great fun spotting the car's of my youth.

Used to love going scavenging when I had fiats. That is until one day I was looking for a marea armrest and there was an interior of a written off car with blood stains in the interior. It had never really previously hit home that all these cars that I was getting nice things from nearly all had tales of woe attached.

Any yard charging such a price for the removal of a part that takes 5 minutes to dismantle, in addition to the price they charge for the part, I think I would tell them in no uncertain terms where they can shove it...

Are you sure it would be off in 5 mins though? An Irish 5 minutes maybe?! I'd imagine if its not up on blocks already that the car would need to be jacked up which in itself would probably take up to 5 minutes.

Yes twas fiats I was scavenging for too. There was a lot of stuff there that hadn't been retired peacefully. Made you realise that your metal box was far from invincible. I'm told any cars involved in a fatality aren't dismantled though.
Really surprised that there are still places where you can wander round yourself due to insurance, H&S ...

The breakers near me have cars stacked two high and you can wander around ad nauseum and you've to dismantle all parts yourself.

Engine swap??? "She's only a 2.8 on the log book!!!"

I've been to Kilcock a few times. It's quality. My only issue, as with most scrap yards is that someone will take a door or leave a window down and the interior is destroyed by weeks or months of rain pissing in.

It'd be great if they got a car in and stripped it down completely then catalogued the parts.

On another note , theres a recent mini there that had a front end collision. Theres far more cabin intrusion than I'd be comfortable with from a modern car. I seriously doubt whoever was in it still has the use of their legs.
