Relatively new to running just wondering what would be the best plan to follow to try get under 1hr 30 in a half marathon? Ran the dublin half in 1hr 32 and did a 38.29 10k the week before so not too far off the time just faded badly the last 2 miles in the half. Have never followed a plan before so any advice welcome.

I would imagine that just about any kind of structured plan would give you a decent improvement in terms of performance. You're running respectable times for someone who is new to running, so why not find your nearest club and give them a try? What does your training currently look like?

I joined my local club, there isnt really any adults training in it so its not much use to me! Train 3 nights a week hills, a bit of interval running and a long run most sundays its kind of all over the place. Also do a slow run on a monday night. Say something like the hal higdon advanced would that be suitable?

Your 10k time suggests you should be capable of a much faster Half time so endurance is almost certainly the issue.

You have plenty of speed so concentrate on Long Slow runs and tempo runs. The best thing to build up your endurance is just by increasing your weekly mileage.

Ye was right with the 1:30 pacers and going easy at the 10 mile mark, last 3 miles were 7:20, 7:23 and 8:23.

Ye should have said hello. :) It sounds like there is some decent structure to your training already, but as Meno pointed out, endurance may be an area to focus on. Have you a half marathon or other event in mind?

Personally, I reckon that the HH half marathon plan is a little light on mileage, but if you're still new to running and your weekly mileage isn't too great, it may suit.

Ha wouldn't post here much so didn't know who was pacing! The Waterford half on the 1st of dec is going to be my next race, so am giving myself plenty of time to get the miles in my legs.:)
