Again, apologies if I've gotten the wrong forum but I think I'm okay. Feel free to move me if not.

I'm just wondering, what is the best way to back up all your data from Android? Photo's, Instagram files, text messages, contacts etc.

How do other people usually do this? I had a quick look in Google but didn't see anything useful and I'd like to know the different methods people use/ best way to do it!

    Thanks a mil in advance.

    Photos - Dropbox
Instagram files - Don't use it - maybe Dropbox?
text messages - SMS Backup and Restore
contacts - Google! Is your phone linked to your google account?

SMS backup and restore, I'll look into this more thanks. And hadn't heard of Dropbox it sounds good! I was sort of hoping to find one place to back everything onto at once, but maybe this doesn't exist!

I don't bother backing up apps.

In the play store, under "my apps" or whatever, it shows all the apps you have ever installed under that account.

As been said, google for contacts, smsbackup(+), calltrace for call logs if that's your thing

It's not the apps you need backed up, it's the associated data!

Herein lies the flaw with the "My Android Apps" screen. Every app I've tried, everything I bought but grew out of (or changed), anything I've bought or downloaded since I had the HTC Hero (starting in 2009). All on this screen, in alphabetical order.

On Google Play, there are 20 pages with 9 items per page, and the last page is on "M".

Until they give a mechanism to remove items from this list, it is useless for long-term android users.

I think he is talking about the next screen if you swipe to the left, it lists apps you've installed and their status. and they are listed in order you have installed. ie if you install something today then it will be top of the list and the very first app you installed is the last app. all on one page just keep scrolling down.

Depending on what ROM you install, that app list is not always available for some reason (while other times, all previous active apps start downloading automatically). I'd love to know what I could do to trigger the auto-download every time....

is there any way to backup and restore your login details,
ie Settings > Personal > Accounts & Sync

so in there i have my login & password details for gmail, dropbox, skype, whatsapp...etc

but everytime i try a new rom i end up having to type them all in again.

Is there an app that can , let say backup to xml and restore to any flavour of ROM?

oh wasn't aware it was rom specific. I assumed when it appeared on mine via a market update it appeared for everyone. I'm happy enough without the autoinstall as used to find that annoying as I used it as a point to clear out apps and only have ones I used regularly installed again.

You may be able to do this via titanium with one of the system components. It'd be worth having a play with.
