Can tax car without NCT

    I bought car with no nct or tax. i have booked nct but havnt done anything about tax. I just got the log book in post. I was under impression if im stopped by garda that i shud be ok given i just bought car and will tax soon as i have nct ??

    You don't need the NCT to tax it.

    you cannot do this, one needs to go to a garda station, get the appropiate form, make the decleration, have it witnessed by a gaurd, then visit the tax office, or post it.

    walked in last week to tax my car, didnt have my nct details, insurance details or chasis number and they never blinked 2x, got my tax disc

    No you don't, you tax it from the start of the month of purchase using the form available at the MT ofice or Garda Stn..

    If you have tax (just go in to the office today for the first payment, then you can do it online) and an nct booked the garda will probably let you off and ask you to produce nct cert in station within 10 days.
    Mind, this post doesn't mean the garda are guaranteed to let you off. They could take the car, but it's not likely as long as tax is paid and all documents are in order.
