i want to sell my astra opc 08 and would like to know the best way to do it, should i put it in one of the following: the buy and sell paper, carzone, CBG, donedeal, local evening paper, notice-board in supermarket or ???.

should i get pictures of interior, exterior front, rear , sides, and engine bay. any more

also how do i value it correcty, i checked carzone, donedeal, their prices are over 3 grand between low and high, and dealers make it confusing as they charge more than a private sale anyway.

it is similar to this in silver, is this resonably priced http://www.carzone.ie/search/Opel/Astra/OPC--TUR/29713459029671820/advert?channel=CARS

It has low mileage, well looked after, good tyres, serviced recently, what else should i say in my ad. Thank you

You'd want to knock at least 2k off that price

Dealerships valuation of Hot Hatches can be misleading tbh, i would say try and see what interest is at 9k tbh, i got my Focus ST for 7,500 07 pre facelift but in fairness the tax bracket makes them alot less desirable than the GTI/OPC

i paid €17000 for it 2yrs ago with 15,000 miles on the clock (it was 2.5 yrs old), again good tyres, serviced etc, phone system built in, losing €8000 in two years does that seem about right or was i robbed first day.

tax will be €660 for a year.

Hot hatches depreciate heavily in the first 4-5 years, hence me buying a 5 year old one with low milage :)

Nice looking car, i would buy a new car mat, stands out with the rest of the car being so clean. donedeal and carzone would be where I'd sell it.

will i price it at €9,200 or something to sell for €9k.

Comparing asking prices on carzone is pointless as it is mostly dealers over there advertising who offer a warranty and price their cars above what they will actually sell them for to allow haggling.

Donedeal is more realistic. You are up against the likes of these so I'd price it somewhere inbetween and see what interest you get:

Not dreaming but towards the back of the Q tbh

41,000kms versus 62,000 miles is a no brainer tbh + his aftermarket alloys look kack

    definitely, cheers

surprised the black one is there 52 days, i thought it was a good deal, there must be no demand for them

Not really, unless you have a pristine low milage example it's a buyers market im afraid

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,106 ✭✭✭dar83

Put it up for €8k, accept €7,500. That's probably the only way you'll shift it and even at that, €8k may be too high.

It's depressing but unfortunately the hot hatch market has hit the floor with petrol prices only rising. The only one that seems slightly immune here is the GTI, as always.

Edit: I meant to say, use that pricing if you want it to shift quickly, if you want to potentially get more for it, just be prepared to wait quite a while.

not sure what to do, don't want to lose that much and also like to sell it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,106 ✭✭✭dar83

You might actually get a better trade in value for it than you'd think. Have you decided what it is you want next? Might be worthwhile seeing what a dealership will offer you for it against your next motor.

probably a diesel golf 08 upwards but nothing set in stone, i will be doing high mileage to get to a new job, 15-17000 miles approx and moving places so need the money otherwise would keep the opc.

maybe a car like this, http://www.carzone.ie/search/Volkswagen/Golf/Comfort-/30013460642444300/advert?channel=CARS

I doubt very much you will get a favourable trade-in allowance against a diesel Golf. Diesel Golfs sell all day long, Astra OPCs don't, I would only trade it as a last resort.

Yeah, unfortunately true. Thought he might have been upgrading to something as fun, but a trade agaisnt a Derve aint gonna go well for him.

OP, try and sell it privately, but just be realistic and accept you may have to let it go for an amount that stings slightly. :(

I dunno he might get €8,500 for it as it's alot cheaper to tax than some hot hatches and GTI's are still holding their value well.

ST i can understand as tax is a major issue when selling

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 280 ✭✭RED PASSION

thanks all, i will try and sell it privately and be realistic, this is the golden age of diesel

The new tax system is brilliant for diesels, €160-€225, how long before the government who are short of cash, jack this back up to €450-€500, 2-3 budgets

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,106 ✭✭✭dar83

    I'd say about 3 months. ;)

I have to be realistic about it, mate, I was just thinking if I buy a diesel whether to go for 1.6 or 2.0 in case the government prefers the old tax system, can't afford €600+ for the next 6-7yrs.
