    Hi all,

Firstly i am not the most computer literate so forgive me.

I am going to New York in 2 weeks on holidays and just won an ipad in work.

As it roughly a 6-7 hour flight i wanted to know what will pass the time for me with the new toy?

I have no idea how to download films, also i am getting the ipad in the morning and dont want to have to get a sim card so will it work without one for wifi only?

Any advice would be much appreciated

Yes it will work on WiFi only.
Go to Apple.com/ie and go to support for iPad. This will give you the basics of how to use it.

    to pass 6-7 hours? try:

movies or tv shows. if you obtain them legally or otherwise, they must be in an apple friendly format (usually mp4) if not, you'll have to convert, which takes time.

music, its an ipod too you know.

    podcasts

Newstand: subscribe to a magazine and read issues (you have to download them first)

iBooks: head to the ibooks store and pick up a novel, plenty of the old classics there for free.

    games: nuff said.

comics, get a free comic reader app and download some comics (i've the classic marvel secret wars series on mine)

    hows that?

On the iPad go to the iTunes App and you can download music or movies (at a price) which are then stored on the device. Be careful with the movies though. if you 'rent' them you only have a certain amount of time from when you open it to watch it before it expires. So dont go downloading films this weekend for your trip to new york and open them or they will expire before you go.

    Enjoy.
