i am now mainly at home
i am just starting on computer (infernal) = plenty of confusion
    completely ignorant of terminology
have been greatly intrigued by jane mcgonnigal's theories of gaming and the results of gaming
one area of games mentioned is that where a person becomes an avatar and plays various scenarios which, by the very nature of a quasi person-to-person interaction, may lead in various directions
i have tentatively played a few games from certain on-line examples and whilst i am informed (post accident) that my thinking is clearer, my reactions faster etc.
naturally, the damage is such that i will improve only to a level and test games where scoring is measured inform me that i am 20 years older in that area.....so far, i work on things,
    distressing for anyone i think
what niggles at me is that people are increasingly competitive, impatient and, quite frankly, rude to put it politely
i would like to know about the imaginary worlds and personages one can adopt but would not wish to put myself in an environment where insults and impatience are acceptable and, the norm
does anyone know of adult gaming - no teddy bears etc. and a community that would be accepting of a 'slowmo', a learner but wildly interested and fascinated

Online gaming communities bring out the worst in people I'm afraid...

You could try Team Fortress games, as from what I've seen the people who play those games tend to be friendly.

You could also try co-op games, as people are usually less aggressive if the game is one-on-one.

Finally, you can simply turn off all methods of communication with other players! You can't hear their insults if you've muted them!

    Good luck!
