On social welfare and going back to college

    Hi All
    I have been on the social welfare for a good while now and my partner is on my claim as he lost his job to,So because there is no sign of any work opening up to us, I have decided to go back to college and get a new qualification.
    The benefits we are getting are, job seekers benefit and rent allowance.
    The course I have choose to do is Childcare and Education Level 6.

    I am very clueless on what my options are and what i am entitled to when going back to education while on social welfare. so any help would be great

    1.Will i loose my benefits and rent allowance and will my partner be affected ?
    2.Am I entitled to any extra benefits ?

    You will get the back to education allowance which is the same rate as social welfare & you will get to keep any secondary benefits, rent allowance etc.

    As regards your partner being on your claim, I don't know how that works.
    The only extra benefit is a one off 300e cost if education allowance.

    Also if you did get some part time work then you are allowed do it as the BTEA is not an unemployment payment.
