Just came across a Finlux 32 inch LCD HD TV with Saorview in Harvey Normans for 249 euro. Seems like good value

A little over the Finlux price & doesn't look to be 1080p. 50Hz & USB Media playback.

    Saorview approved.

You asked for an Amazon link - as for how and where folks choose to spend their money, that's up to them.

Also, pay in GBP on Amazon & it's €270 approx - a saving of €17

Amazon exchange is showing €277 so saving is 10 euro only.
I asked because I've been looking for a similar size telly some time ago and I couldn't find any REALLY competitive prices on amazon. I finished with local retail anyway but as it's "political" for some people, no more comments from me about it.

Why would you accept Amazons own FX rate?

It's skewed heavily in their favour - change it to GBP at checkout.

    Pay in GBP - £215.24 (€265.86) + CC Ex-Eurozone fee (Typically 1.75% -£3.76)

    Total: £219 / €270.51

    Saving: €17.44

Good deal. Nordmende is a recognised brand name - although the TV is probably badge-engineered like most these days.

I think the Nordmende has a slightly better picture than the walkers. The Finlux looked ok too though.

I bought an Alba 32" HD Ready TV in Argos a few weeks back for €249.99 and I'm very happy with it. It's saorview approved as well.

Hi Celiam, the Normende can record Saorview without an external box? Can I get a link please? Also can it record one channel while you watch another? Thanks.

Amazon won't ship any screens over 26/27" to Ireland (or at least wouldn't last month when I tried to order), and its too big for the normal Parcel Motel service.

    Always thought it was 32".

Just tried a 37" there and it was getting past the stage where it normally tells you they won't deliver to Ireland. Good news.

They still do but there are anomalies - certain brands and certain models are excluded.

The LG linked to above ships without issue.

Does anyone know the answer to this question?

the program has to be recorded onto something.

the tv doesnt have a built in hard drive so you would need an external hard drive or a usb stick

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,061 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

Yeah I knew that, this sounds ideal for my parents to be honest but I want more details, if its Saorview approved it must have an EPG etc or does it just work with Saorview even though its not approved.

Anyone know deal going for a small 19"ish telly with Saorview?

There are a lot of posts on Boards saying that pixmania's customer service is very bad (to say the least). Based on that alone, I would avoid buying from them.

Have you checked Power City, Harvey Norman's, DID, Curry's, Tesco, Amazon etc.?

I bought a 32" Nordmende from Power City about 4 months ago for a new flat. I should say I'm fussy normally and had come from watching a six month old 40" Sony 1080' . ( the Nordmende was 720') . However I was on a budget so jumped at the sale price of €244!
The Nordmende is simply stunning for the price - highly recommended. A memory stick turns it into a video recorder if you are using Saorview. You can play pc recorded files on it too. Picture quality is great and you struggle to appreciate 1080' at only 32" anyway :) . To answer the other question no, like every built in pvr, you cant record one and watch another. . You'll need another Saorview box for that ;-)

@Yamanoto... I tried to buy the LG 32CS460 32-inch Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV with Freeview (New for 2012) from Amazon today and got "cannot be shipped to the selected address."
I'm in Galway, any one know why?

    Thanks :)

A relative ordered the amazon one the other day and was quoted a delivery date of two months from last week. She cancelled it.

Use www.parcelmotel.com and the Antrim address? You will have to pay for outsize delivery, but it should get to you. Check with Parcel Motel first. They are owned by Nightline.

@kearneybobs...Yesterday it was on a 7 day delivery schedule: I guess they sold out to all of us seeking a decent Saorview TV?
@ninty and paulztag...Thanks for that; I see Powercity are also doing the LG at €299.95 (plus €9.95 delivery to Galway).
@ Etnies...Thanks too; but I've kinda got a crush on the LG ;)

Think LG is a good way to go. I have a 47inch LG and the media player is brilliant. Has played every type of file I've tried on it so far. Thinking of getting the LG 32CS460 for a bedroom too :)

Like most prices in the UK chain stores (Argos, Currys etc), it's pure bullsh1t.

Same telly is the same price in Power City.

Think it's the same in Tesco too.

@Little Ted... £248 (c€315) at Amazon (+ free delivery, if they will deliver to Ireland...which is debatable) vs €330 at Currys; so a good price.

Yeah, I agree - no real value in buying online for such a minimal saving. Unless I am buying something not available in physcial shops or unless I am getting a much reduced price I prefer to buy in a bricks and mortar shop in case anything goes wrong.

yeah I do realise that - hence why I said it "claims" to be €220 off retail price.
