I wish to resign from my current job to move to a new company. I have been 7 years in my current role. The new company wants me to start asap. How much notice must I give my current employer? and do I deduct the remaining holidays from the notice period? Any help on this would be much appreciated.:)

Your contract is the first place to check. The law only sets out minimum notice periods; a contract can extend them.

I think the employer is only ever entitled to a week's notice after the employee has worked there for 13 weeks or more, going by this page. The table set out here seems to just be what the employee is entitled to.

Any decent employer should know that they can't expect someone to be available at the drop of a hat. Would they want one of their own employees of 7 years leaving within a week?

That's up to your current employer. They can choose to let you take leave as part of the notice period, or they can have you work the entire notice period and pay you for the outstanding leave.

Acruded holiday is normally paid in your last pay cheque - normally it can be used to reduce a notice period though. So if your contract says 4 weeks and you have 2 weeks holiday left you can ask to do 2 weeks and take 2 weeks holiday. The company is under no obligation to do that though.
