Could be a heap of things up to and including the engine. Did he elaborate at all on why it mightn't be starting and any works / investigations he carried out?

What sort of shape is it in besides? What kind of money? What work are you able to do on it yourself by way of repairs? These are some of the questions you'd want to look at in my opinion.

Beware of the engine being needing rebuilding. To get this done properly, you're looking at in the region of €3000.

He said it was working up to last year an has been parked up since. Im lookin for 1 to restore an would be able to do alot of work myself. We got a fiat engine rebuilt dis year an it didn't cost anywhere near 3000!

Got a 135 engine done recently. It lost oil pressure and the driver kept going till it stopped. Cost as near to 3K as made no difference. That's with the garage doing all the work and an engine rebuilder for that part.

Apart from normal engine checks one specific one I know
    is, there's

A small helper fuel pump with a sight glass, the lever that works
the pump that is in the engine can wear down over time
and cause poor starting - no starting, rough running and stalling.

Lever is the size of your little finger and is pictured in the bottom
right of the above linked picture.
