HTC One V restarting

My HTC One V is restarting itself with increasing frequency, now up to about once a day. It only seems to restart itself from idle, though that could be coincidence as I'm a relatively light user. There's a HTC "abnormal reset" notification after the restart with an error log, but I can't interpret this.

Phone is completely stock, some apps from Google Play but nothing unusual. Any ideas on how to fix this (or even where to start)? I really like the phone overall but the resetting is a problem, especially if I don't notice it's happened - the SIM remains locked, hence no call function.

    Thanks!

I have the same issue, But I found on a HTC forum if you disable Software Updates the issue does not occur as often. Not a 100% fix but worth a try.
Settings -> About -> Software Updates -> Uncheck Scheduled Check

Thanks Plex, I'll give this a shot. Do you have a link to the forum?

Still having the same behaviour, considering getting rid of any downloaded apps and/or a factory reset to see if it helps. HTC phone support seems quite good but you really need to ring them from another phone with the mobile in your hand, haven't got around to this yet.

    Hi guys,

I have the same issue with my One V. Have it two weeks. Really like it appart from the resetting issue it happens about 6 times a day. Not too bad if you notice it but has gone off in my pocket from idle a few times and as it required a sim pin to reopen it has meant a lot of dropped calls which is not ideal.

Is this a common problem with the One V.

Thanks Plex, I'll give this a shot.

...and it didn't work :(. Phone ran on idle for about an hour, then restarted in my pocket.

Does anyone know how to interpret/download Android error logs? In the abnormal reset notification there's an option to view the (enormous) error log file, but no way to save or parse this to see if it reveals what's happening.

Just to update my own query, I found a workaround by disabling the SIM card lock (Settings->Security->SIM card lock). Phone still restarts itself every few days, but recovers perfectly.

The phone already has a pattern screen lock and avast Mobile Security running, so I don't think dropping the SIM card lock is really going to affect security.

Lads anyone come up with a solution to this. I note Bills suggestion however would like to keep the sim card lock if possible. My one V still resets itself somethimes it might go a week without doing it other times it can happen 5 times a day. really annoying. Any software update from HTC to correct this

My gf had this problem with her HTC desire HD recently. Started off about once or twice a day. Increased to every ten minutes or so. Took the battery out for ten minutes and uninstalled the Facebook app and no problems. That Facebook app has caused my many problems before.

I have had this issue on a Galaxy, so it may help you too:

Check what memory you have available,: Settings > Applications >Running Services

Check what memory you have free, I found that as I got down to less than 20Mb my phone would restart.

If it is low, see what is hogging it. I found that Facebook, Yahoo mail and Viber were eating huge chunks of memory. You can manually stop them in the "Running Services" screen, or with a task killer.

To sort this automatically for once and for all, I went back to the apps and stopped things like push notifications and auto sync. I uninstalled Viper and moved to Skype, which at least unloads after use. Hope this helps.
