Humax HDCI-2000 freezing on channels

Guys I have a problem with my Sat box. I tried posting this in the foreign but got no response. Maybe somebody could advise here?

    I have a Humax HDCI-2000.

Lately, it's been freezing on certain channels, in particular, German channels such as Das Erst HD and Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR). If i go to these channels, they work but you cannot change the channel or use any options on the remote control. I have tried to use the buttons on the unit itself and it's the same problem. I always end up having to pull the plug to reset it. On rare occasions with some channels, it does release but only after an hour so. When BR is on, it never does this and with Das Erst, it freezes the screen.

There is an option to update via satellite but all the time since I have had it, it has never received an update this way. I have tried it many times over the last few years.

I am planning to renew my Polsat card soon but I don't want to if this unit is on it's last legs.
Can anybody give me some advice as to what I might be able to do?

You could try unplugging it, taking the lid off and running a cool (not HOT! as you will kill the components) powerful hairdryer over it to remove the dust that it will have picked up over the years (they are 10 years old).

The processing unit in it is too slow to handle HD signals especially off TPs with high symbol rate. Its DVB-T twin brother 2000T had the same issues and is no longer usable for any MPEG4 broadcasts, both SD and HD.

If the first paragraph doesnt work, time to get a new one.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot.
Any recommendations for a replacement if it's not up to the task?
