If I was doing that distance I would bring a couple of Nutri grain bars or bananas and have 2 drink bottles filled with water and one High 5 tab in each. I would not have the 1st banana or nutri grain bar until about 50km and the second about 90km. I would however if I were you have a good breakfast about 1.5 and no later then an hour before you set out in order to let it digest properly.I would refule then asap after with a meal made up of carbs and protein for repairing the muscles and refilling the system with energy you have exerted. Is this a training ride your doing or an event, because if its the latter the should have food and drink stations on route.

Preparation should really start tomorrow fluids loads of , pasta loads of generally chomp away all day spoil yourself. If you have eaten properly the day before an event you should be good for approx 50 / 60 k before you need to start eating on the bike. The more natural the food the better all I ever take are elevenses bars a banana and powerbar gel shots and one tube of USN Vooma gel in case of emergency. A good dish on the fly is croissant nutella and banana ends up looking like ****e but the goodness is there....
Keep this in mind : Drink every 15 mins eat every 15 k (as I said after about 50k or so) FLUID INTAKE IS CRUCIAL dont break the 15 min rule

an obviously a good breakfast as early as possibly before the ''Depart''

Thanks for all the info guys...
Its a charity cycle, so i dont think the pace will be too hectic, But i imagine it will take 6-7hrs, as the other people arent really 'cyclists'
just dont wanna get the "bonk" .... :D

When I first started doing distances like 100km I was told not to wait until you are hungry before you eat as by this stage chances are it's too late. So if you get to 50km or whatever and you aren't hungry eat something anyway.

I take flapjack bars, bananas and gels for emergencies. The bars are good, bananas are good, gels will sort you out for a short while if you really need a boost.

Bring some jellies! Like jelly snakes or whatever. Or wine gums. Just nibble on these as ye see fit, I usually just empty the pack into my jersey pocket.

I always take 2 bottles and usually fill one with water with a high5 tab and put an energy drink in the other like lucozade or powerade. Not sure how good / crap an idea this is. :)

Stay away from anything fizzy or overly heavy as it may not sit well in your stomach. I use either flattened lucozade or miwadi, both are good, just make sure you have water too.

Fig rolls are an excellent food to have, they're my new favourite.

    Good luck with it :)

An energy drink (with electrolytes if you sweat) is better during a long cycle IMO, I find SIS the best. Coke is good after a cycle

    I would bring sandwiches
Don't mean to sound awkward but how do you pack them in a cycling jersey?

Tin foil works for me. Sambos are great for longer days just to avoid that empty stomach feeling, although if it's a charity cycle there may be a rest stop organized with real food.

I'd avoid the suggestion of tipping a bag of jellies into the Jersey pocket if you're inclined to sweat, I have ruined multiple pockets with similar methods. Fun size bags of haribo are very handy, I get them in lidl.

I usually take a packet of Jelly Babies on a long ride. Cut the top off, and sit the bag in a rear pocket.
Fig rolls and bananas are good and a decent breakfast before of porridge is a must.
One bottle of water and one of hi-5

I have to say I generally don't like eating on the bike and even on longer spins won't bring anything, maybe just a cereal bar when they come free on events and then just the 2 bottles of water, refilled on the way.

More improtantly OP, make sure you get a beer handed to you at the finish ;)

If you're riding straight through without stopping I would try to have something small to eat every 30 minutes or so! My personal favourite at the moment is Go Ahead fruit bakes because they're not too dry or alternatively Fig Rolls - which Lidl are selling at the moment in 2 biscuit packs which are really handy to stick in your pocket!

In theory you should be trying to eat approximately 250-300 calories per hour during the cycle.

fry for breakfast, fry for lunch, fry for tea, beer to rehydrate,

(actually 140k half a dozen gels and a couple of french bread sarnies (wrapped in foil) would prob do me high 5 tablets and one water stop to fill 2 bottles. porridge for breakfast and pasta the night before)

I used to bring quite a bit with me, two nutrigrains, a bag of jellies and two water bottles of Hi5 for a 100k spin.

I was constantly coming home though with most of the jellies, probably one of the nutrigrains and half a bottle of Hi5, so I realised I was overdoing it.

Feeding before the event is more important than feeding during IMO. 18 hours beforehand, up your carb intake slightly. Not carb-loading because that would be overkill, but just a little more with each meal - an extra piece of toast, another baked spud, etc. Lots and lots of water today and lots of sleep tonight.
A good breakfast is also important, porridge is the man.

That should be enough for most riders to go for 3-4 hours on just water and no food. Of course once you reach that point you'll feel like crap, so start eating small amounts from 2.5 hours in, every half hour or so to keep the tank topped up.

Remember that energy drinks/tabs/electrolytes usually have energy in them, so you don't need to drink them and eat food. If the event has a food stop halfway through, then the energy drink in your water bottle(s) should be more than enough to keep you going. You can always bring a spare tab/sachet for when you refill the water bottle.
